Tancredo was just on Bill O'Reilly (thanks to the poster who had the heads-up), and pointed to the very false dichotomy you just posited:

Either repatriate 11,000,000 illegals, or make them citizens.

There is a very logical, very reasonable, and very prudent middle ground - which you would find about 99% of the "border trolls" would enthusiastically support:

1) Build a fence, add border patrol (stop the inflow)
2) Hold all employers responsible for verifying legal status to work in the US, at time of employment
3) As police, and others go about their daily jobs and encounter illegal aliens, then yes deport them. The ones most likely to be "found" this way - are the ones who most likely should be sent back home.

There's no need to make 11,000,000 people who don't see themselves in any way as "Americans", citizens. It's almost absurd to do so.

Those who oppose such a complete sell-out, are opposed on very reasonable, heartfelt grounds.

The point is that you believe that if somsone disagrees on this issue that they are a DNC plant (as you agreed with that portion of MJ's post) and their post history would bear this out. I agreed with everything the President said tonight, the only thing I would have done different is I would have placed more emphasis on those who hire illegals intentionally and the ways we need to improve the identification process. A good stern warning to the companies who hire them would have been my suggestion,

Sure, Bush could have done much better tonight. I wish after border enforcement he would have just stopped. But the House is not going to let the Senate control the debate, so I think in the end, whatever we get will be better then what we have right now. Pouting Pitchforkers? I like it. Yep, I posted earlier today that the flames would be flying unless Bush ordered the Guard to shoot border crossers on sight. Those on the fringe always overestimate their numbers and influence, and are always first to insist they will take their footballs home. The fringe right and fringe left cancel each other, and are nothing to worry about.

Bush's border strategy is not harsh enough for me, but so what, his GWOT strategy isn't aggressive enough for me either.

What's important is...those strategies are the best I'm going to get at the moment, so I will support my president while I ask for more aggressiveness, respectfully. Bush responded on the Supreme Court, and he is moving our way on border security. This short-attention span expectation of gimme everything I want, just the way I want it or I'll pout should stop. It won't, because it's more tied to personality problems than pragmatism.

No only do I believe it, I know it for a fact. I've been active in local politics for years, and have met many people who espouse exactly that. I've read posts here on FR that say much the same thing.

President Bush has attempted to take a middle ground between extremists on the Left and the Right, and he has been savaged for his stance. I respect people who disagree with him in a respectful manner. Those who don't just make me sick.

Thanks for the uplifting post which I wholeheartedly agree with. Pres Bush once again took on the hard job of again addressing the illegal immigration problem. Now let us see if congress will do their part and followup. Congressmen Tancredo and King on BOR tonite were not accepting compromise so the beat goes on.

I live in Los Angeles, and I sure as heck do not agree with the extremists who want mass roundups and deportation of illegals, a Berlin Wall on our southern border, and regular Army troops every few feet with orders to shoot to kill. That's what most of the hysterics want, even if they aren't honest enough to admit it.

If you will recall, the guards on the Berlin Wall were on machine gun posts, ready to shoot anyone who tried to get out of East Berlin. Not the other way around.

I've heard a lot of Democrats use that analogy, though...
