We were at competing networks, TV-City here. I did some free-landing over at Fountain a few times, though.
I'd like to know who the pool feed was operated by this time. If we were doing some sort of in-house thing, we might feed open end through MC, then do the switching in the integration control room. Since we knew who was on the other end of the line, we didn't worry about accidental 'punch-ups'.
When we were feeding a circuit (like a closed circuit feed for affiliates, for example) we were very careful not to put anything on the line we didn't want to risk having some idiot using.
There's two different professional breakdowns here, to my way of thinking. Whoever's feeding the pool shouldn't have put it one the line, and whoever cut to it should have known better.
Mostly the lesson that ought to be learned is that the White House should produce its own feed, rather than relying on the 'network dejour' to do it. If it's your feed, it gets done right. If somebody else is doing it, you're at their mercy.
Looks like we can both laugh. NBC produced the feed, and cued him too early. Somewhere there's several DGA members who should be very nervous tonight.
