I wish there was something--anything--about tonight's speech that I could point to as real progress and a change in course to stop the invasion of illegal aliens into the United States.
I can't because there wasn't anything.
This is not going to be a good November.
He did. It just wasn't strong or realistic. He laid out a plan that started with border security. (same as mine)
Then he addressed what to do with the illegals here. (not good, not well thought out and it skipped the necessary 2nd step of cracking down on employers)
Then he addressed how employers need the tools to verify the status of employees. (necessary in order to demand a crackdown)
He said this needs to be all done together in order to work. (not absolutely true but has a grain of wisdom to it)
Beyond that he's going to put the Nat. Guard on the border. (Not enough but he set a precedent, for recent times anyway. A lame gesture or not; it will make it easier to put more troops on the border in the future when it really gets hairy down there.)
He did less than I wanted and more than I expected. It doesn't make me happy and it doesn't make me mad. Congress will do that. As usual.
