President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim

>>>>>You guys want him to come down soooooooo hard on the illegals that we're going to lose the Latino vote to the RATS.

The RATS already have the Hispanic vote. The more illegals that are allowed to become US citizens through the Bush-Kennedy-McCain amnesty proposal, the more votes the Democrats will secure in future elections.

"I am not as intrested in what he says. I'm want to see WHAT HE DOES.

Time to go after the House and Senate!! Right now, they're trying to find a way to put a real pretty face on amnesty. Have you heard some of the anti-citizen stuff they're coming up with? Unbelievable!

"Even Brit's panel is mostly defeatest ---- there are too many of them here so we can't do anything about it.""

LOL.

Dick Durbin replying? Good. People looking for hope will find none there. He'll try to cast Bush as racist or something.

I think so too. Good speech. Plus I can tell you someone that breathing a sign of relief Hispanic Republicans. Good speech that will go good for them too and hopefully something that can be built on as we continue to get votes from that community.

I think this is the problem with us in the right wing...we are governing as the founding fathers have forced us too...we have to take steps to the right, not leaps. For crying out loud, we are trying to undo 50 years of democratic house control...

We got the judges when the base was upset

we got the taxes cut and now extended

now we have the lurches to the right on immigration.

If we all step back and look at this, this is an excellent speech with a good president. I am back on board...

Excellent speech - Our President / CIC is a man of tremendous character. He serves this great nation proud.

DevSix, could you please reassure us that you are not in the employ of the Bush Administration or the RNC?

He's making a simple problem very complex - most likely on purpose. Just build the wall and then the other ideas can be discussed.

With all due respect, I don't think it's that simple. He did mention building a wall in urban areas, but the rural areas are massive. How much it would cost (and the time involved) to construct a physical fence, I have no idea. It seems to me we can implement the best technology in the world much more quickly.

I also think he had to address all aspects of the issue tonight--I heard this a.m. on the radio that he's got the worst poll numbers of any president ever recorded, IIRC.

Insanity it is indeed. A reckless, feckless immigration policy will be the undoing of a great nation.

This amnesty (the Prez can call it anything he likes, but it is still amnesty) will result in 50 million MORE illegals in the next five years.

God help my poor grandchildren! Their taxes will support this folly.
