President's Immigration speech - Live thread
me | 05/15/2006 | me

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim

Isn't it funny the only actor we have had for a President didn't act and all the others have?

---Here on FR, you see the BorderBots howling like boiled cats, and it's entirely sincere. A certain number of them will sit out this election, or vote for third parties---

Yes, and the off year election is the time to send a message. I'll probably vote locally for Republicans and nationally for a third party. There's still time for the Republicans to repair the damage before 2008 and if they're handed a big enough rebuke in 2006 perhaps they will.

I understood they get in the back of the line of those already in the US but not those who are waiting for legalization in other countries.

YW.

I never stop thanking the Lord for this President.

My son served four years in the Army during X42 and I assure you, the men and women in the armed forces RESPECT this President.

I must say as a conservative that I will not vote for any senator who signs on for this amnesty. The House has it right and will get my vote for those of you who say the senate and the house will be lost you should realize this will not happen the senate maybe but the house will be safe.
Thereby no impeachment will happen that is the houses job.

You are commenting pretty well in your post, but you're talking about the future, and one that is over a decade out. If you zero all foreign workers today, an economy our size will not tolerate it. By the time your decade arrives, there will be another Great Depression in the history books, only in this one it was our parents who died at 60 of no heat in winter -- not our great grandparents.

How do you "zero all foreign workers?" We have one million LEGAL immigrants coming in every year plus an H1B visa program currently capped at 65,000 per year. We also have other visa programs for investors. If we need more workers, we use legal ways to get the kinds of workers we need to operate the economy. Simple as that.

Just heard tonight that many boomers plan to work into their 70's and some have said into their 80's. I don't honestly think an illegal is capable of earning what most of us earned and pay as much into FICA... would probably take three or four (if they even declared and paid FICA) and when you look at the public services they consume I don't see a win-win here... we would be much better off to immigrate an educated populace, many of whom are wanting to come here and can't because of the sheer numbers pouring over the border.

Couldn't agree with you more about the revulsion the picture you have posted evokes.

Nonetheless, if Pubbies want to blame folks for the result you are predicting, let them blame the president and the Rhino traitors, not the people who cannot stomach the wrong doers. Don't blame the victims.

I suspect every Mexican in Mexico who had access to a tv is now in the process right now of loading up the car, bike or mule for the trek north.

Actually it's the toughest talk by a president in over 40 years.

Yet you think this is the moment every Mexican TeeVee watcher is loadin' up the truck and gassing up the mule.

Any "guest worker" program, once begun, will receive endless increases in the number of "guest worker passes", by the same greedy employers who want the programs to begin with.

It will morph in no time from 100s of thousands to tens of millions on no time, as the same people who want and approve of it now use whatever number of already approved guest workers as a measure of how well it is doing. (How well for employers.)

And what can be worse than 12 million illegal immigrants? 20 milllon "guest workers" who, with perpetual renewals become semi-permanent stateless workers who are almost never in their home nation and almost always in their "temprary nation", while never a citizen where their work and never involved in being a citizen "at home".

The world already has proven, disasterous examples of massive gues worker programs and in both the sending and receiving nations the countries are socially and politically dysfunctional - the Phillipines, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Dubai and many others.

A massive guest worker program is a time bomb inside a trojan horse.

If the Republicans (including President Bush) want to keep the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman out of leadership positions, they must take a firm stand against illegal immigration, not the "too little, too late" and backdoor amnesty offered in the President's speech. If the illegals are not stopped, and soon, the Democrats will have a permanent majority in this country, even if every conservative turned into a 100% pro-Bush supporter.

Oh, B.S. He didn't put the words "final solution" in quotes! The only nazi here is you, you freakin' thought nazi!

Here is his comment in context:

"Then return when they can do so legally.

This is not the final solution (that is 100% effective) but if we can reduce the presence to 10%, we are millions ahead."

It is clear to anyone without an agenda that he meant that the proposed solution would not be as effective as a total deportation which would be 100% effective. You Dimocrat/RINO racebaiters pollute these threads by your presence.

Awesome, comprehensive speech by the President....one with which I totally agree.

It is strict and fair. It is ethical and logical.

The president's Christianity is showing:

I think he is right on in some respects. Especially as to Michelle Malkin. People forget what people like Malkin and others represent and what there purpose is.

Michelle Malkin is not for "shooting illegals" or "rounding them up" as the blog says. Therefore, it seems highly suspect.
