Border concerns are obviously not a new issue, given the passage of the two acts in California and Arizona. But those were passed during the Clinton Administration, and where were all of the complainers back then? I heard some muttering about the courts, but nothing much else. Of course, people had SO MUCH to fault Clinton for, but one would have thought that the Minutemen would have surfaced a few years earlier.
No, my major concern is why the HISPANICS suddenly took to the streets...not the concern from Americans. Aren't you curious about why they suddenly felt the urge to demonstrate in all of the major cities? I think I know, and it is because the Hispanics are being used to divide the Republicans right before an election. Without those demonstrations, we would be discussing this but not at such a fever pitch.
The original (and most successful) protest in Los Angeles was organized by Hispanic media in opposition to HR 4437. It caught everybody by surprise, including the LA Times and other regular media channels. It was designed to oppose Republicans and galvanize support for Dems. There wasn't any master strategy in terms of "dividing" the GOP.
Btw, I'm probably one of the few people on this board that regularly hunts down and explores SoCal ethnic neighborhoods in search of good eats (my wife is addicted to a certain dish called 'Molcajete'). We're almost always the only anglos people in these joints.
The point of this digression? HR 4437 dominates the billboards, including advertisements for Hispanic talk radio, etc. It's a very big deal for them - straight from the heart. I for one do not believe that there's any puppet masters manipulating both them and the GOP.
Right here Miss M. We've been screaming for a long time but nobody has listened to us. It became national and involved the president when he chose to join in. His "jobs Americans won't do" is insulting to those of us who have done those jobs. When he says "A leader leads" I want to scream "Please Mr. President, look behind you, because the only ones following you are the enemy". I've gotten to the point where I have to leave the room because I can no longer listen to him say these things.
I LIVE here in Arizona with this problem every day. I watch fellow freepers who I love and respect, taking a side they know nothing about. What you can see is only the beginning, it's what we saw 10 years ago.
