May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.
"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.
She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.
The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.
Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.
She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.
White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."
"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

Also what do have against a guy named Jose picking asparagus?
Clearly you haven't read the thread.

Perhaps I should follow the lead of the fresh, invigorating "Jorge" and "Illegal lovers!" crowd? ROTFL!!!
Man, you border bunnies are easy to piss off. Of course, that's not due to my comments so much as it is a state of perpetual anger.
This would be a good number to know. Illegal aliens are deported every day, but how many?
From the "WHOA, didn't see THAT one coming" Department of the Obvious: 1.Who didn't think that the *now* $6.00-an-hour illegal would be granted amnesty and voila'(sorry, don't know the spanish word for voila'), becomes *newly formed union member* demanding $18.00 an-hour for same job? Suddenly, the cheap wage excuse has ended and the amnesty has been about WHAT, exactly? A brand new democrat voting union has been formed, and once again, we find ourselves screwed.
Then the law is a Ass. ;)

The law does not require IRS audits for every return.
The law does have one prescribed penalty for illegal presence within our borders - deportation.
For the same reason you beat your wife.
:) As usual you make no sense at all. Your modus operandi when it conflicts with your agenda is to attack the messenger using anything that it takes, no matter how petty.
As a libertarian or democrat or whatever it is you are since you're not a conservative tell us exactly why it is you support open borders and why it's good for the rest of us. You don't do that because you can't anymore than the Wall St. Journal can or any other open border shill.
One more time, if you cut off the money transfers, build a wall and seriously penalize employers, most of them will be self-deporting.
Human nature still works - let it.
The NG can be used to enforce the law in the events of insurrection and invasion which is exactly whats going on at the border.
Come on down and talk to residents of the border area. It'll be an eye opening experience.
It's the same stuff on every other thread
You point is ????
This issue was not a big deal a mere 18 months ago in the election. All of a sudden it's the ONLY issue that matters. What nonsense.
The President's position on this issue hasn't changed since 1999. The eventual bill that gets through Congress will be much closer to his proposal than Tancredo's.
Tonight on the Live Thread we'll see attacks on the President that will exceed anything directed at Clinton, Kerry, Gore or any other 'Rat. They'll need a double shift of Mods tonight -- like having extra cops on holiday driving weekends.

Oh god, he's going to use that phrase "jobs Americans won't do" again.
It almost sounds disrespectful and cuts against the grain of the American work ethic. Big mistake to repeat this over and over IMHO.
Bump.
Whether it is the President or his speech writers, they must stop using this phrase. This phrase has way too much ambiguity and only serves to make us all impassioned vs any proposed guest worker program.
You know, even with a college degree, I worked at a job where the employees (yes, all of us) took turns cleaning the toilet bowls. And, we weren't paid any extra. Are YOU too good to clean a toilet bowl?
susie
LOL - probably - ya wanna keep count? LOL
"Excuse me, you believe that enforcing our own laws is the same as Nazi concentration camps? Wow.
susie"
Go for it Susie.
Isn't it wonderful how some are saying that the USA wouldn't be able to process the legalities of deportees, but are quite willing to let illegal immigrants off with no legal enforcement. Seems like the law is irrelevant.
It's a bit like saying: "Oh well there are so many of those suicide bombers, and the appeals process won't be able to handle it, so... what the heck...Welcome Bin Ladin, and, great, I see you brought all your friends...........
