May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.
"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.
She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.
The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.
Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.
She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.
White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."
"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

Who ripped Bush? Jeeze get a grip! I just said no surprises here - it is about the vote with all politicans and its quite obvious when it comes to everything with Congress and the Senate. Gotta remember its an election year. And like I said in my other post - first we secure the border - second we make it hard for anyone to hire illegals and then the illegal problem will take care of itself.
Anchor babies are the foundation of the problem. As long as they exist, our laws will be exploited and flouted...
We can't boot 11 million illegals, but we can fine them, we can make them pay back taxes, we can make them learn English and we can make them American citizens. Does this make any sense? And Bush is being dishonest in saying the choice is between "rounding up" 11 million illegals or giving them citizenship. It's not looking good for Bush or the go along to get along GOP Congress.
Like I said, I've supported this President much too strongly to stop supporting him over something I'm just being particular about, as you're now trying to portray it.
Maybe I should wait to hear what he has to say from his own lips tonite, because I am serious about this. If he fails to put some reasonable controls in place and just plays politics with this issue, I will no longer be able to support him in good conscience.
They're all broken records. They'll say anything to get by with breaking the law and maintaining the lawbreaking indefinitely. I don't care if illegals sneak into the country to work cheap if:
There are SOLID procedures in place to prevent them from voting.
They cannot receive public assistance of any kind (except emergency medical).
Their children born in this country are not automatically US citizens.
They go home at least once or twice a year.
You been watching the news...right? And I didn't mean to just talk of farming. You heard about the incident in which black American laborers were let go in Louisiana and Mississippi when the "Mexicans" arrived to do their work in Katrina damaged areas...right? That is the type of "dislocation" I was talking about!

Yes but why force employers to take chronic welfare cases, shouldn't they have the right to look for good and reliable labor.

Rather than try to do something hard, why don't we try to do something that should be real easy, like cut off any U.S. tax-funded benefits they might be getting?
Pushing this rather than round 'em up would have the additional advantages of hurting Democrats and shrinking government.

President seems to be one of them, Senator another, Representative a third.
