LOL, you Mr. Bush and Tony Snow, maybe a few others, are the only ones that appreciate the depths of my "affliction".

Sean and most politicians live for inside the beltway butt kissing.

Frankly, I am sick of them all.

Imagine Peggy Noonan even suggesting that losing might be a good lesson.

Having the dems in charge of health care. HilaryCare with rationing, higher taxes on everyone and everything, the military decimated again.

Oh yes, that would be quite a lesson wouldn't it.

We should reward the obstructionist demonrats?

The media has been ramping up the hysteria over immigration and our right wing talkers have joined the BushBashing.

I am sure the live thread on the President's speech will be something else I wonder what time it will actually start.

"I had to laugh when one week he is saying "I'm a conservative not a Republican" and the next week he is saying "I'm a libertarian, not a Republican."

I concur w other comments here re Sean. I used to really like him and totally appreciate the support he provided to the President during the elections. That said, I'm not sure what he's up to now. I've heard him say he doesn't sleep much and does a lot of reading (and research?) - -obviously he wasn't reading/researching the same things that Tony and Rush were during the Dubai deal, to name one.

I'm wondering if instead of 'Hannitizing' Colmes (like he says he's going to do) if Sean isn't being Colmesitized or pollitized a bit. Rather than putting out the conservative agenda and thoughts and directing the discussion that way, he seems to be pandering to listeners, polls, etc. a bit (in addition to selling his book, if he has one out, Ruth's steak house, etc).

"I think a rational, live thread would be a great idea -- sort of like the one ohioWfan ran this weekend."

I agree. I don't suppose we could have 2 threads: a rational one for reasonable, thoughtful discussion, and one for the Bush-bashers, trolls, one-issue (illegal immigration) folks, who I suspect aren't going to be happy and find something to b*itch about, regardless of what the President says. If we can only have 1, then I'd like to suggest that the rest of us who would like a thoughtful discussion, ignore the other posts. Anyone have any other ideas on how we can make it a productive thread rather than one full of verbal fisti-cuffs?

For those of us on the left coast:
A little over 10 hours until Pres Bush
A little over 14 hours until Jack Bauer ;-)

Nobody will tell me, or nobody knows, what the feud between Bush I and Perot was about.

altura: you probably already got an answer but just in case you didn't...

Perot has remained convinced ever since that large numbers of POWs are being hidden in Asia, despite massive evidence to the contrary. (In fact, there is strong evidence that most of the MIAs weren't even missing; they were shot down while flying illegal missions over Cambodia, Laos, etc. and the government called them MIAs rather than admit the missions.)

The Reagan Administration even gave him access to top secret classified documents in an attempt to answer his relentless criticism of them for not bringing the MIAs back, but Perot only saw what he wanted to, and remains unconvinced. In fact, this was the origin of his feud with George Bush; as VP Bush drew the unpleasant job of telling Perot they were cutting off his top secret clearance, and Perot typically started a no-holds-barred feud with Bush, which in part led to Bill Clinton's election.

Ohio - 1st - I haven't read the end of your thread, but read and participated in it on and off on Saturday - - I applaud you for a great idea and think, for the most part, it was a SUPER thread!

" Some, even pre-'04's (vbg) seem to relish causing dissent on threads."

I read a little on some of the other threads and, like the rest of you, get disgusted w some of the language and bashing of the President and fellow FReepers. I understand that one can be passionate about an issue, but one can also be civil in the discussion. I also noticed that quite a few of those posting are pre-04 (some even 98 or 99). I read quite a few posts on FR and I don't remember seeing some of these names on other threads. Putting on my tinfoil hat here - - someone mentioned that there were those that joined early on that were Bubba's supporters and perhaps even staff or from the DNC. Do you think that they lay low and pop up now and then (like now) to get folks riled up on particular issues?

Sean thinks his good friends on the left consider him a good friend in return. What a joke. He's their predictable resource for getting on the air and getting credibility for their attacks on the right and the President.

McCain concurred with the abandonment of any further information gathering into POW's left behind in Viet Nam.

The Swift Boat Vets are not about to forget it either.

McCain knows they are going to come after him on that.......which is why he slammed them when they went after Kerry.

I will be donated to the Swift Boat Vets for Truth again.

To answer your question: YES.

They always support the most radically conservative answer to any issue. If the President appoints Bolton with a recess appointment, they bitch because he didn't do the same with judges. Partial birth abortion laws are not good enough...they want all abortion outlawed immediately. War in Iraq? We haven't bombed them into the Stone Age. Dealings with China? Nuke them immediately.

Of course, when the President does something like asking for the Patriot Act, then they bitch about civil liberties and such. Mark my words, when we spend more money on border enforcement, these same people will be back griping about the size of the budget.

"Mark my words, when we spend more money on border enforcement, these same people will be back griping about the size of the budget."

Of that I have no doubt (of course, they won't mention that the budget could be smaller if their congresscritters would quit spending so much money on *important projects* like the mating habits of Tse Tse flies (e.g., PORK)!

While I've seen vitriol and bashing here and there on threads, I don't recall the almost total takeover or attempted takeover of every thread such as been happening on immigration. I understand it is an emotional issue, but, it's also a very complicated one that deserves thoughtful, reasoned discussion, rather than smart-aleck, swarmy remarks.

Proving that the media has co-opted the issue and with the help of our right wing talkers, all reason and sanity have disappeared from the conversation.

There is no way in all the world that I am going to be on FR tonight..........or possibly ever again.

I made my point that it could be done......that the majority of freepers want to be able to deal with this issue civilly, but yesterday when the hijacking juvenile delinquent party arrived........the counterpoint was made.

And that was that the majority of us are denied our freedom because of the ill mannered, loudmouthed, childish minority.

I wouldn't touch a live thread of this speech with a ten foot pole. I'm going to spend much time in prayer today for the President, and I'm going to listen carefully to what he says.

I'm not coming near this diseased place.
