I think we all should be on the side of our President and want him to succeed... unfortunately, the press hasn't figured that out.

We do need to press the WH and our representatives to let them know where we stand on issues...

Thanks for the post SC...

A.H., I agree w you to some extent and don't think the ridiculous bill the Senate originally put forward would have a chance of passing - - the House would never let it out of committe. However, the issue I have is that the Mexican Catholics you mention 1) don't always seem to want to assimilate (based on what I saw during the rallies; 2) many are being influenced by Mecha and La Raza; and 3) there are many illegals from other countries as well (Ireland, Russia, China, etc.). I thought this was an interesting speech given by Dick Lamm (former Gov of Colo) in 2004:

I agree completely about keeping English as the only official language. Multiple languages is a death knell for a nation. English mastery is a must for any immigrant if they want citizenship.

That said, many ethnic groups retain their language in their neighborhoods for generations. I know it was true of the Italians, in particular, and certainly for Jews also.

That does not prevent them from being good Americans. Latinos will be good Americans also (IMHO), but the key is education of the second generation, and insistence on English as the primary language.

Until we start teaching, in public schools, our own children what it means to be an American, it is hard to fault an immigrant for not knowng it.

Lots of good info about Gov Rutabaga, most of which I was unfamiliar with. I wonder if you could line up those URLS and post them for those of us that missed the previous posts on the veritable potpourri of Corruption. That would be great....

Already have. Do a keyword search on Bill Richardson

Hannity used to be a lot better than he is now. He used to have a different voice, attitude, demeanor. He may be pushing himself too hard. I know he is very generous, and giving, but I believe he works too hard and travels too much and that may be part of the problem. I still like him and he is a valuable commodity, especially for Younger conservatives, but I cannot listen anymore. He is childishly strident too much for my listening pleasure and he will not admit he jumped the gun about issues.

He could be cooperating with individual governors then the guard would be under its statutory authority. Perhaps states sharing national guard units...

Thanks. I will look up those threads. One of my axioms is to look at what the media does NOT say. This might be one of those times. OR -
they are terrible at connecting dots in every situation, and only write in a lemming-like pattern. Everyone (in media) waiting for someone else to criticize the great switch to ethanol.

Maybe they are saving those guests for tomorrow night...but, I have to tell you, that if you are PRO Minutemen, you might be glad they DIDN'T have any of them on today...

That one guy they showed, plus Simcox and I heard Gilchrist, have started sounding more and more "militant" every day...which would NOT play well right now, IMHO>

Up front. I took his course that was online and on TV some years ago. I not only took it, I taped it to see things over and over. Newt is/was great. I hold him in high regard. Yes, I understand and accept his problems and mistakes. Nor would I vote for him for president. Still, his understanding of history and politics is really amazing. Newt will also be remembered as an outstanding visionary. For all that, I give him all the credit in the world.

In the years to come, people will realize how great Newt was with his Contract With America. It's kind of passed over today but historically it will go down in the history books as a major turning point in American politics.

Yeah it's a disaster any way you cut it with drug prices increasing, mal practice out of control, hospitals going broke, emergency rooms becoming virtual doctors offices for many. etc.

My point was that it could be a bigger disaster with 30 million more that we have on it now.

I haven't heard that it's tanking. I think the rising interest rates are putting a damper on the market and houses are taking longer to sell. I expect prices to fall back some, but not to prior levels and then probably level out for a few years, which wouldn't be a bad thing.

I know here in my town they say we have more units available and they are taking longer to sell, but we are just getting into the summer season and it will be interesting to see if Californian's still come and buy vacation houses this summer. I know some of the local construction workforce is moving elsewhere because building permits are down, but that is because we are limited to buildable lots and surrounded by state land on three sides and the lake on the other...

I would think you are correct, but the rub is who will pay for it. I think PC prevents an end around using Federal money like that.

The states aren't going to foot the tab. I think Congress will have to approve of anything concerning the NG. If you think moonbats are calling for impeachment now, wait till GWB deploys the military on the border without Congressional approval.
