Lockheed Martin to open (Immigration) call center in Albuquerque (Amnesty is a done deal)

ALBUQUERQUE Defense contractor Lockheed Martin Corporation plans to open an Albuquerque call center that would field requests for immigration information.

A company spokesman, Joe Wagovich, says Lockheed expects to have the call center in full operation in three to four months.

Some 350 workers would field toll-free phone calls to a hot line operated by U-S Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Callers will generally be foreign nationals or lawyers seeking information about immigration and naturalization status.

At least 30 percent of the center's workers must be able to speak Spanish.

Lockheed also has plans to expand a call center in Indianapolis as part of a five-year, 120 (m) million-dollar contract with the U-S Department of Homeland Security.

I agree, Congress is a bought and paid for bunch of #%&%#!.But it sure would have been nice if our President put our country FIRST, instead of pandering to every illegal, south of the border. OK, then. With some double digit millions of illegals in the country, 350 workers would not begin to be able to deal with the volume of calls that would come with an amnesty program.

Your wierd capitalization aside, you have provided some information about an immigration call center that is under a contract from HSA.

All the rest is your own speculation. Have you any idea how many legal immigrants there are in this country? A central telephone bank to provide information to that group would need about 350 workers.

You have stated your speculations regarding a news story. That's all they are...speculations. I suggest a calming cup of chamomile tea.

You need to read the entire article before popping off. Had you done so, you would have discovered that I said: "IMO," THAT would have been your clue that some of it was speculation on my part. Had you done so, you would also have noticed that another call center was being opened up in Indianapolis!! Might I suggest you lay off the booze so early in the day. :o)

Oh, for pete's sake! Lockheed Martin already runs such a call center now. This will expand that call center. Who do you suppose answers calls about immigration? This call center does.

Nothing in the story linked this call center to anything having to do with illegal immigrants, any guest worker program, or anything other than an immigration information call center.

The overblown reaction to this is typical of what happens when someone hasn't a clue about how things are currently done and sees demons lurking under every bed in America.

We have millions of LEGAL immigrants in this country. On a daily basis, many of them make phone calls about their status or to ask other immigration-related questions. 350 workers could not even begin to handle the call load from all the ILLEGAL aliens in this country, and they're not calling anyhow.

This expansion of an existing program has nothing to do with what is going on with regard to illegal immigrants. It's just an expansion of an existing program.

Not everything has to do with illegal aliens, for pete's sake!

Again, have a cup of chamomile tea, breathe slowly and deeply for a couple of minutes, and this frenzied paranoia will pass.

I needed no clue to that fact. I read the story. It had nothing to do with illegal immigrants at all. It is just the expansion of an existing call center program, designed to answer questions from immigrants. You are aware, I suppose, that there are lots and lots of legal immigrants in this country.

I needed no IMO to get a sense of the hysteria you brought to this simple news story. Sometimes things are just as they are stated in the story. Adding to it with your random speculations serves no purpose.

Instead, you could go out and search for "immigration call center" on Google. Had you done that, you would have discovered that I am correct.

Failing to do that, you waxed all hysterical and wrote nonsense about something you knew little about.

As for my consumption of alcohol, you do not know me. I have two glasses of wine with supper, as suggested by my physician. Other than that, I do not drink or take any mind-altering drugs.

We live in California and you can do absentee ballot here. My husband just finished his. He told me he wrote "none of the above" in 7 times.

It is the first time he has ever done anything like that.

Precisely! This was a simple news story about an expansion of an existing program. It is a local story in New Mexico, because it means there will be some hiring there.

But...it had the word "immigrants" in it. That is enough to trigger the hand-waving anti-Bush and anti-Republican hordes into panic mode.

I don't like illegal immigration. Not one bit. I'd like to see the borders closed and all the illegal aliens deported. That said, I do not see bogeymen in every news story regarding immigration. Expansion of a call center? OK. I imagine it's something that's needed, so folks who need immigration information won't have to be on hold for three days.

There's way too much hand-waving going on over this topic these days. It's unseemly and illogical.

I agree. No good will come from this. I think there's going to be hell to pay in the 06 elections. It will serve them right, but unfortunately, WE are the ones who will have to pay.

Perhaps you missed class the day your Social Studies teacher explained that we operation on a capitalistic system here in the USA.

Business is the business of this country. Government doesn't own the capital producing businesses here. That would be something else....socialism.

Is that what you want? Socialism? Here in the USA, business is king. Business provides the jobs, and through the generation of capital and the taxation of that capital, provides every darned thing we use, like roads, etc.

This is an extremely emotional issue, There are so many reasons that this breaking, entering and stealing is bad for this great Nation I can't find one good thing about having over 20 million illegals overcrowding this country and our resources with 10,000 more entering each day.

Here in DFW TX we were warned of a water SHORTAGE. ALREADY.

They increased the deficit by $3 BILLION.

Something must be done about all the employers who hired these people and paid them under the table talk about a underground economy why isn't the IRS going after the employers and collect back taxes (and please don't say they are paying taxes) collecting back taxes on 20 million workers would probably pay off the national debt and give all of us a major tax cut!
