Pakistan advice on attack: 'Hit Israel'
AP via Chicago Sun Times ^ | May 13, 2006 | KATHY GANNON

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan's former army chief says Iranian officials came to him for advice on heading off an attack on their nuclear facilities, and he in effect advised them to take a hostage -- Israel.

Retired Gen. Mirza Aslam Beg said he suggested their government ''make it clear that if anything happens to Iran, if anyone attacks it -- it doesn't matter who it is or how it is attacked -- that Iran's answer will be to hit Israel; the only target will be Israel.''

Since Beg spoke in an interview with the Associated Press, echoes of his thinking have been heard in Iran, although whether they result directly from his advice isn't known.

Mohammad Ebrahim Dehghani, an Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander, was quoted last week as saying that if ''America does make any mischief, the first place we target will be Israel.'' The threat was disavowed the next day by Brig. Gen. Alireza Afshar, deputy to the chief of Iran's military staff.

Wouldn't you think by now the Dems would understand that there's a world war on?

No, they're still pulling for the US to lose so they can come to power.

They're a bunch of anti-semites and traitors.

Nah, that's the same advice they gave Saddam in 1991.

Iraq tried that in the first gulf war and they were a lot closer.

The flaw with this plan is that when a cop sees a guy with a gun threatening to shoot, he does not drop his gun, he fires faster.

If Iran threatened to hit Israel with missles, we would drop more ordnance faster on any targets that were likely sources of missles.

Or the men in a family kill a rape victim relative for the sake of their "honor".

Warped and twisted if you ask me.

Don't know if they're anti-semites, but there do seem to be some Dems out there that want us to fail in the Middle East so they can win Congress and the White House. I sense that if the insurgency faded in Iraq and we found and killed Osama tomorrow the scene at the DNC HQ would be like a wake.

And just as in the Cold War--but even worse--the Left in this country sees no threats from anywhere, except the Republican party. If they had their way, we would have given the Soviet Union billions in foreign aid to keep them around and Reagan would have been impeached.

When the Dems were scared, they voted power to Bush. Now that they feel safe, they think they can do whatever it takes to get back in power because Bush won't compromise the safety of the country in order to stop them, and anything they do to weaken the country will be patched up before they can be held responsible for it.

The White House can't talk about what it is doing to fix whatever the Dems break, because the Dems break those tools by talking about them. So the Dems can continue to "break" things, because it makes the White House look like it doesn't have control of things, and the White House can't announce when it fixes something, because that's how things get broke in the first place.

Short of slapping the Dems with treason charges, there isn't much we can do except continue to try and get the Dems unelected from office.

Iran circa 2006 ain't Saddam's Iraq in 1991. 15 yrs and plenty of missle tech transfer from the likes of the PRC and N Korea and porkistan and not 2mention WMDs of the nuke and non-nuke variety make this threat a whole lot more serious.

Really? Then why do they always get 90% of the Jewish vote?

Very true and point well taken. And unlike Saddam in 1991, I suspect the Ayatollahs will have no hesitancy to use chemical warheads and perhaps even a RDD warhead against Israel if they launch Shehabs against them.

On the other hand, I still think it more likely for the Iranians to use terrorist surrogates like Hezbollah or PIJ to attack Israel with WMD. I could easily see a dirty bomb going off in Haifa or Tel Aviv.

Then Iran would go to the UN and claim they had nothing to do with it. And Kofi and Company would swallow it hook, line and sinker.

Saddam did have WMD in the first Gulf War and none of the dozens of scuds he sent into Israel where WMD-tipped. Seems he was scared enough of Israel's nukes that he didn't risk it.

But the Duelfer Report noted that Saddam had given the order to use Anthrax missiles on Israel if the US had made a move toward taking Baghdad.

Well, If I were in Israel I'd be thinking "Then we'd better attack now, because sooner or later someone's going to attack and it's going to be our problem either way." In fact, I'd consider that kind of rhetoric an act of war, because Iran has basically just announced that anyone wanting to destroy Israel needs only to provoke Iran into doing it.

Israel appears to be much more defensive than in years past, but it seems to me the ruling Iranian ideology combined with a nuke threat, might just reawaken in Israel a very aggressive strategy.

And then Israel's only available response to this act by Iran is .....

I'm not even sure Israel would strike Iran after this. RDD material is available from too many sources. If Israel thinks it was HAMAS, they'd more likely go after the West Bank and Gaza. If Israel thinks it is Al Qaida, who do they go after? Saudi Arabia?

If the Israelis are sure it is Hezbollah, do they go after the Bekaa? Or Syria? Or Iran?

Eventually Mosad would figure it out and someone would pay, but I am not at all sure that Israel would respond to a RDD by nuking Tehran.
