"Last year, GM sold 374 H1s, down 16 percent from 447 in 2004. AM General, which builds the H1, H2 and Humvee in Mishawaka, Ind., said that it doesn't plan to cut any jobs as a result of the decision. GM said workers there were expected to be shifted to military production."

I drove a Hummer (Army kind) in Desert Storm...man, that was a trip driving on sandy roads...and fast. My CSM was riding along and he didn't mind me driving fast...although I had to watch out for those blasted camels! LoL For some reason, they don't want to move...

Poor copy of the military version.
While it looks cool and sort-of like the military one it seriously lacked the drive train and suspension of the "Real Deal". The "Real Deal" does not have straight axles.

GM Says It's the End of Road for Hummer H1(R.I.P.)"
Boy, that's a relief! Here I thought that GM was going belly up.

I'm amazed that the book price on a 5-year used H1 is over $50,000 according to Edmunds!

BAH! The H1 was the only good-lookin' one, IMHO.

A) H1's don't burn "gas"
B) If you've never put one through it's paces offroad, you have no clue of what you're missing.

If I wanted a nice 4x4 for over $100K, I would look at a Unimog. They're ugly, but they work.

Had it sold like hotcakes, I'm sure they wouldn't be stopping production.
My guess as to why production is ceasing: costs about $130,000 to $140,000.

Why would anybody in a city need a piece of junk like that?
If they really feel they need an off road vehicle that bad why not by a John Deer tractor? They'll look just as ridiculous driving through New York and have all that "practicality" they desire.

I have been going off-road for years, deep into the backcountry on steep, narrow, windy trails, in various 4X4 pick-ups, Jeeps, etc., and I have yet to see a Hummer back there. Probably because they are way too wide and unpractical for most trails. For that matter, I have yet to see a SUV of any kind on remote dirt trails. In reality, all you ever see way back in the boondocks are Jeeps and 4X4 trucks.

I'm surprised at the low number of Hummers. I live in Bullhead City, AZ and I'm constantly shocked by how many of these I see on the road here. I moved here from San Diego, and I never saw as many there.

The steady decline of General Motors puzzles those who light their illegally imported Cuban cigars with $100 bills.
The 2006 model year will be the last for the Hummer H1.
Oh, no, can the culture take the hit?
