THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION DOG AND PONY SHOW
Sierra Times ^ | 5/13/2006 | Jim Kouri, CPP

Posted on 05/13/2006 5:49:57 AM PDT by FerdieMurphy

On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement proudly announced that they arrested one of the owners of a Mexican restaurant in Missouri following worksite enforcement operations at his Missouri and Iowa restaurants.

Julio Zapala-Urbina, co-owner of Julio's Mexican Restaurants in St. Joseph, Mo., and Cedar Falls, Iowa, was arrested on criminal charges of knowingly hiring illegal aliens to work at his restaurants. His arrest followed the execution of a federal search warrant, and the administrative arrest of nine illegal aliens at his St. Joseph restaurant. ICE agents also executed a federal search warrant at Zapala-Urbina's Cedar Falls restaurant April 27 during which 12 illegal aliens were arrested.

This investigation began March 23 after ICE was notified of a man whose Social Security number was discovered to be invalid, following his application to reside in a Cedar Falls mobile home village. The man indicated that he worked at Julio's restaurant. ICE agents later arrested two other illegal aliens who were involved in a traffic accident in Benton County, Iowa. They both also indicated that they worked at Julio's restaurant.

Further investigation revealed that none of these employees had been required to complete any paperwork or provide any documentation in order to work at the restaurant, which are federal requirements.

ICE special agents in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, executed a federal search warrant April 27 at Julio's Mexican Restaurant in Cedar Falls. They arrested 12 restaurant employees, and seized business paperwork, tax forms, a laptop computer, business bank account information and $17,000 cash. One of those arrested during this operation was restaurant co-owner Juan Lopez-Angel, who illegally resides in the United States. Following this operation, the bank account for this business was also seized.

While the arrests are to be commended, one can't help but wonder if we wouldn't get more bang for our buck if ICE and other investigative agencies were to initiate investigations of larger businesses -- those that hire thousands of illegal aliens.

The above described law-enforcement operation took over 6 weeks and hundreds of man-hours, yet the operation resulted in a mere 20-something illegal aliens apprehended and the arrest of a couple of small businessmen. The cynic in me sees an attempt by the Bush Administration to dupe the American people with a few well-publicized arrests of business owners who illegally employ undocumented immigrants just before Bush's scheduled televised address to the nation this Monday evening.

The Bush Administration and others in the GOP say that our nation is incapable of capturing the estimated 12 million illegal aliens. So the debate has become deportation vs. a much bandied de facto amnesty program.

We are told by Republican lawmakers (forget the Democrats -- we already know their position on the matter, though they try to avoid revealing it to voters) that the immigration problem is a complex issue. Baloney.

In fact, the remedy to our illegal alien problem is relatively simple: arrest employers of illegal aliens and seal the borders, including a shoot-to-kill policy for those armed paramilitary "Zetas" who provide protection for Mexican drug traffickers and coyotes.

If the jobs dry up, the incentive for illegals to remain in the US or enter the US becomes nullified. If we position troops on the border for about one year in concert with a real crackdown on businesses that hire illegal aliens, this will send a clear message to the Mexican government that we mean business and they will reconsider their strategy of unloading their criminals, undesirables and ultra-poor on the American people.

Of course, there will be a "minority of people" who will squawk about such an anti-illegal immigration policy, but they are in the minority and these left-wing, self-appointed voices will just find something else to squawk about. For hidden within the multitudes of illegal aliens during their protests, boycotts and rallies, are the Marxists, socialists and ultra-left Stalinists who use the illegals as a prop for their true agenda -- the destruction of a free and prosperous America.

The American people must let the GOP -- including the President -- know that we're not impressed with their dog-and-pony shows. We want action.

I'm not a frequent poster, that's true. But I find it hard to believe that FreeRepublic management doesn't understand the critical nature of the border issues, if only because it will cost the GOP so dearly. You can insult and attack those on our side of the border issue into oblivion on this forum, but that doesn't change what has, is, and will continue to happen in the country at large. The GOP will go down in flames over this issue if it doesn't do an abrupt about face. If it's not too late already.

Saw a report yesterday that said crooks are selling newborn and young children's SS #'s -- SS discovers this but is precluded from notifying the parents of the problem; granted that doesn't get rid of the illegals but the fact that someone is using your child's number and doing who knows what and the government knows and doesn't let you know is a little frightening.

Ah, you are Bushbot GOP apologist taking offense at people's anger at illegal immigration as if it were some sort of DNC mind control ray that's infecting people's brains.

This "it just happened, no one paid attention to it before so it must be a DNC attack" is a crock of feces.

The modern conservative movement didn't begin with Rush Limbaugh but he was the awaking for millions of people, just like the Minutemen were in 2004 when they brought to light where and why the changes in American cities were originating, at the border.

The fact that the DNC is taking advantage of a split in the conservative ranks is nothing new.

It was on the news, too and more than one article posted here on FR at the time.

Round 'em up:

"Tyson Foods, the world's largest meat producer, shut 5 of 9 beef plants and 4 of 6 pork plants in anticipation of widespread absences. Perdue Farms, the nation's third-largest chicken producer, closed eight processing plants in seven states. Cargill Meat Solutions, the nation's second-largest beef processor, gave more than 15,000 workers the day off and closed plants in six states."

"Because it's against the law to reveal that information. IRS and SS are forbidden to give that information to ANYBODY."

This is complete BS. There is no prohibition for one government agency passing private information to another government agency for legitimate law enforcement purposes. Ask Al Capone. Oh yeah, I forgot. He died in prison of syphilis. They got him on tax evasion charges. I wonder how the prosecutors got their hands on his private tax information.

I believe the number of 12 million is being low-balled. More likely double that number -- or more.

Now, he'll just be overwhelmed and confused.

Nah, he won't look anyway. He's a hit 'n run disruptor, using the same Rat techniques we used to see in the '90s. I am not kidding.

Tyson Foods... You mean they are still in business? I haven't bought their chicken in years because of their Clinton Cocaine connection.

So.... these crooks selling kids numbers to illegals are selling the same numbers over and over? Where are they getting the numbers? Hospitals, Doctors' offices? If that is the case, under Hippa everyone's numbers are being changed away from SS numbers so they would have to go to a different source.

This "it just happened, no one paid attention to it before so it must be a DNC attack" is a crock of feces.

Forgot to mention, this exact same issue was being hotly debated here on FR in the days, weeks, if not hours immediately prior to 9/11.

In fact I vaguely recall that I skipped from an amnesty thread directly into the WTC "airplane crash" thread on that awful day.

This is not new, it's just that GWB feels compelled to trying it once again, doing exactly as he promised to spend all his "political capital" on this issue but not realizing that the bank is busted and that Republican Senators and Congressmen will pay his bill in November.

Anything promised past next week would make me suspect it was posturing for November.... but Tony is smart enough to tell him the base isn't going to buy it. IMHO Tony's behind this appearance Monday night so I do hold out a certain amount of hope for the speech.

JR had a thread on this a couple of days ago. He supports the president implicitly and expects the posters to do the same. Or the highway we shall see.

This has been an issue ever since Fox visited here just prior to 911 and they held the joint press conference that sent chills down the spine about open borders. I think a lot of people thought the issue was dead and buried after 911 only to find out what those of us here in the SW knew first hand -- the people South of the border didn't care a whit about 911 and had packed their bags and headed North to greener pastures; apparently with their governments help/approval and a wink and a nodd from the USA.

I've seen some estimates as high as 28-30 million. Even some Washington politicians have said the 12 million number is 'probably lower than reality'.
