THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION DOG AND PONY SHOW
Sierra Times ^ | 5/13/2006 | Jim Kouri, CPP

Posted on 05/13/2006 5:49:57 AM PDT by FerdieMurphy

On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement proudly announced that they arrested one of the owners of a Mexican restaurant in Missouri following worksite enforcement operations at his Missouri and Iowa restaurants.

Julio Zapala-Urbina, co-owner of Julio's Mexican Restaurants in St. Joseph, Mo., and Cedar Falls, Iowa, was arrested on criminal charges of knowingly hiring illegal aliens to work at his restaurants. His arrest followed the execution of a federal search warrant, and the administrative arrest of nine illegal aliens at his St. Joseph restaurant. ICE agents also executed a federal search warrant at Zapala-Urbina's Cedar Falls restaurant April 27 during which 12 illegal aliens were arrested.

This investigation began March 23 after ICE was notified of a man whose Social Security number was discovered to be invalid, following his application to reside in a Cedar Falls mobile home village. The man indicated that he worked at Julio's restaurant. ICE agents later arrested two other illegal aliens who were involved in a traffic accident in Benton County, Iowa. They both also indicated that they worked at Julio's restaurant.

Further investigation revealed that none of these employees had been required to complete any paperwork or provide any documentation in order to work at the restaurant, which are federal requirements.

ICE special agents in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, executed a federal search warrant April 27 at Julio's Mexican Restaurant in Cedar Falls. They arrested 12 restaurant employees, and seized business paperwork, tax forms, a laptop computer, business bank account information and $17,000 cash. One of those arrested during this operation was restaurant co-owner Juan Lopez-Angel, who illegally resides in the United States. Following this operation, the bank account for this business was also seized.

While the arrests are to be commended, one can't help but wonder if we wouldn't get more bang for our buck if ICE and other investigative agencies were to initiate investigations of larger businesses -- those that hire thousands of illegal aliens.

The above described law-enforcement operation took over 6 weeks and hundreds of man-hours, yet the operation resulted in a mere 20-something illegal aliens apprehended and the arrest of a couple of small businessmen. The cynic in me sees an attempt by the Bush Administration to dupe the American people with a few well-publicized arrests of business owners who illegally employ undocumented immigrants just before Bush's scheduled televised address to the nation this Monday evening.

The Bush Administration and others in the GOP say that our nation is incapable of capturing the estimated 12 million illegal aliens. So the debate has become deportation vs. a much bandied de facto amnesty program.

We are told by Republican lawmakers (forget the Democrats -- we already know their position on the matter, though they try to avoid revealing it to voters) that the immigration problem is a complex issue. Baloney.

In fact, the remedy to our illegal alien problem is relatively simple: arrest employers of illegal aliens and seal the borders, including a shoot-to-kill policy for those armed paramilitary "Zetas" who provide protection for Mexican drug traffickers and coyotes.

If the jobs dry up, the incentive for illegals to remain in the US or enter the US becomes nullified. If we position troops on the border for about one year in concert with a real crackdown on businesses that hire illegal aliens, this will send a clear message to the Mexican government that we mean business and they will reconsider their strategy of unloading their criminals, undesirables and ultra-poor on the American people.

Of course, there will be a "minority of people" who will squawk about such an anti-illegal immigration policy, but they are in the minority and these left-wing, self-appointed voices will just find something else to squawk about. For hidden within the multitudes of illegal aliens during their protests, boycotts and rallies, are the Marxists, socialists and ultra-left Stalinists who use the illegals as a prop for their true agenda -- the destruction of a free and prosperous America.

The American people must let the GOP -- including the President -- know that we're not impressed with their dog-and-pony shows. We want action.

I think they are afraid to give the real numbers, because that WOULD rouse the rest of the base out of their slumber.

I believe the number is at least 30 million.

The President's amnesty/guest worker program is nothing more than a gigantic social program aimed at Mexico and illegal aliens, funded by the taxpayers once again.

Compassionate conservativism my foot, what about his compassion for American citizens?

Come November I will vote for noone who supports it.

The problem is NOT complex. Enforce current laws to the point the illegals are afraid to stay here and self deport. We wouldn't need a wall and we wouldn't need military on the border.

I am prepared for just one more dog and pony show Monday. It is guaranteed that his "military on the border" is just a way of fooling a bunch of people and shoving his Mexican social program (amnesty) down our throats.

I am not buying any of it.

"Most are LONG gone before the W-2's are ever reported, they've had 3 or 4 jobs before the information hits Austin (where the W-2's are filed). You did know that the only place individual information is filed is at the SSA didn't you? The IRS is not notified directly by the employers."

Hmmm... Seems to me the Goberment didn't have a problem making sure I was who I said I was the last time I bought a gun.

GW has been pushing for amnesty for illegals from his first election. It was heading for passage and then 9-11-01 attacks hit.

That put it on the back burner. The next year, it was pushed again, got through the House (IIRC) and almost got through the Senate. A Senator stopped it, on a technicality. That Senator was Robert Byrd, D-WVA. Had he not stopped it, it would have passed.

It was quietened for the '04 election cycle. Shortly after the election, it was put on the front burner, and here we are....

"I want the GOP to stop doing things that drive conservatives away."

Exactly! I am not whining or b*tching. I am correcting my Party for the same reason I correct my children--because I love them and want them to be the best they can be. I expect things out of my Party, and I will speak up when it is not living up to my expectations. Expressing my desires and expectations does not make me disloyal.

JR had a thread on this a couple of days ago. He supports the president implicitly and expects the posters to do the same.

Jim names as enemies the exact same people in the Senate who are pushing for illegal alien amnesty, including McCain and Specter.

It is a great mistake to blame this entirely on GWB, since he did ask in March 2004 for a twice-renewable, 3-year *work visa* and nothing else. He expressly stated that everyone would apply *from their own country* for permanent residency, regardless of the work visa.

Those are the facts.

If on Monday GWB tells the Senate that he will veto anything resembling amnesty, he will save the Republican Party from a very dismal November.

That's the FBI not the IRS and covered by an entirely different law.

Congress just has to change the laws to make the SS numbers accessable via a checking devise (they can do that without giving out any information other than "yes" or "no" just by keying in the name, number and birthdate and then get an answer back "yes" it matches or "no" it does not.

Wouldn't be foolproof but would eliminate 95% of the fraud since you could probably manage to match two if the answers but would be hard pressed to get all three. By giving a simple "yes" or "no" answer, the government would still be protecting the basic privacy of an individual because it would not be giving out information, merely confirming information the individual willingly gave out.

I'm sorry but a poster such as yourself, who doesn't even know the difference between the Republican Senate Bill and the Democrat alternative, nor what a FILLIBUSTER is, is hardly a credible source of "information".

"Tony is smart enough to tell him the base isn't going to buy it."

Sorry to pop you bubble on this one Arizona Carolyn but Tony is a big Bush fan on this whole Amnesty issue. I wouldn't look for any help from that quarter.

Sorry anyone this feverish to post Hate GOP propaganda over and over and over plus is willing to tell out right lies is either a Democrat pretending to be a "Betrayed Conservatives" or a complete political incompetent who has NO clue how Politics works in a Constitutional Republic. So which are you, a political fraud or a political fool?

No one gets 100% of what they want in politics. To actively work to throw away a glass 60% of Conservative values to elect a Government that will give you 100% political poison is the the behavior of spoiled, petulant, children, NOT rational adults.

Yeah this guy is really qualified to tell us what is going on in Washington and the differences between the various Illegal Immigration bills. Just another old wacked out loser who thinks he is an expert on EVERYTHING because he is an expert in one thing.

"Recognize the enemy for what he is and do not allow them to use divisive issues to destroy our conservative movement. We are winning. We must not be sidetracked by an issue that will be solved in due time as we elect more conservative members to our government and continue replacing liberal activist judges with constitutionalists."

While I agree with Jim's sentiment of not being sidetracked, I must respectfully disagree with his notion of sticking by the Republican party. Conservatism and Republicanism are not one and the same and time is running short. If we don't get the borders closed soon it will be too late and the current Republican administration is only paying lip service to the problem. The Elite in the Republican party are in fact Globalists using the party as cover. The sooner we get them out the better. Failing that, we can kiss our country good by.

Your probably right that Congress would have to sign off on this but thats a technicality and only one vote away. We need to put pressure on our reps to get it done.

I'd like to know how your mother teaches you anything about rational adult behavior when you can't get away from your furtive activities in your basement bedroom.

He forgot to add MNJohnnie as another traitorous slut, but he's a Rat in any case.

I told my family to NEVER EVER buy anything from Tyson Foods. Politics aside, they are so corrupt that if they had some sort of outbreak of diseased chickens, they would rush them to market instead of destroying them. Doing business with bad people can hurt you.
