"It obviously at this point is just a mess," new White House press secretary Tony Snow said good naturedly, summing up his rocky first question-and-answer session with reporters.During 23 sometimes-chaotic minutes Friday with the White House press corps in his West Wing office, Snow offered a half-dozen apologies for a less-than-smooth debut, pleaded ignorance on seven questions and ruled out all talk of international or currency issues."I do not wish to set off global tempests," he said, "because I frankly just don't know enough on those."

Snow is waiting until Tuesday to hold his first televised briefing, taking advantage of a week when Bush was on the road most days to practice with White House communication gurus and educate himself on a dizzying array of policy positions.
He scheduled his first Q&A for Friday, an off-camera morning session called the "gaggle" that is held most days as a warmup for the formal news briefing.

A telegenic man who has built a reputation as a bright, unflappable broadcast presence, Snow remained relaxed, even self-deprecating, despite considerable grumbling. Asked what he wanted to do differently with the press operation, Snow joked: "Well, apparently, the gaggle."
"I had this wonderful idea that this would be nice and collegial and relaxed," he said with a smile.
Snow promised to move back to the more orderly venue of the briefing room, and look into the requests for information that he hadn't been able to supply. He sought to tamp out buzz that the midday briefing would stop being televised.
And, despite the problems, he showed he's a quick study on White House public relations strategy.

GO TONY!! I already sense a difference.
Pinging the Snowflakes!
He cool.
He should hole the gaggle outside, especially on broiling hot days. He can be under a tent while making the reporters stand in the sun.
How do you hole a gaggle? Torpedo in the midship?
Helen's face might melt.......more.......
LOL...He certainly stirred up the MSM with his 'Setting the Record Straight' articles his first week. I think he might have been sending them a message.
Great! Now all we've got to work on is that yellow wristband...

<< "In hopes of making the gaggle more intimate, Snow announced he was moving it from the theater-like White House briefing room to his office." >>
More intimate? Think I'd want to install a spit shield to separate me from that nasty gaggle.
It looks like they're off to a good start.
Not that the press would gang up on him and deliberately ask him difficult questions to try to trip him up, or anything like that.
Tony, you are in there helping shape policy and helping to tell the right message.
We trust you to do the right thing.
There was a packed crowd that left some on the hallway :0)
Especially here in the Lone Star State (in late July/early August)... it is going to be a "Africa hot."
"Rollin' rollin' rollin'
Keep them dogies rollin'
..."
I thought the "briefing room" was being remodeled right now.....and they were in temporary quarters....
Sipping a tall cold drink, answering questions at a leisurely pace while they drop like flies.
I assume by now he has awakened from this infantile daydream.
