Except that most of the populace has so little understanding of World War II and subsequent history that most of the references in it would go right over their heads and they wouldn't get the ironies.
I read one a few years back that just concentrated on D-Day and the field day the media would have had with that.
They reported on the dummy armies in England, and the cardboard planes, and demanded that out leaders explain what was going on in the days leading up to the invasion, which of course was not secret any longer.
That one was easier to understand because the references were more well known... (but many are likely unaware of the subterfuge that went on prior to D-Day even)
I was watching the opening scene of "Saving Private Ryan" and my cousin asked me if it was a movie about Vietnam.
"Most" people would have no interest in reading such a "long" article. For those who do read it, the paragraph above is a reference to a very recent event. Let's hope that lots of readers do take the time for this excellent article. Of course, they would also have to have seen the film footage of Zarqawi with his weapon in order to understand the reference.
One more quote:
Indeed, what little we know comes to light only due to the brave efforts of a few unnamed operatives in the Office of Strategic Services who have in secret provided such information concerning patently illegal activities to the responsible news organizations.
I was just thinking the same thing. (Great minds think alike)
On the other hand think of it as a teachable moment.
