Thinking of Throwing a Tantrum in November?
Shameless Vanity | 5-11-06 | Burr5

Posted on 05/11/2006 8:25:42 PM PDT by Burr5

There has been a rising tide of opinion expressed these last few days on Talk Radio regarding the impulse to vote against Republicans in the upcoming congressional election in order to punish them for their whorish pandering to illegal aliens, their fiscal irresponsibility, and their general disregard of the demands of the conservative base. I have heard echoes of this on Rush Limbaugh, Mike Gallagher, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck and Bill O'Rielly.

We should be worried about this attitude. Especially those of us who remember 1992. In George H.W. Bush's second presidential attempt, a conservative rebellion (over tax policy) and the insurgent candidacy of a purported "economic conservative" (Ross Perot), resulted in the election of the most venal, irresponsible, demogogic criminal in the history of American politics. 43% of the electorate was enough to give us eight years of Clinton.

So would sitting this one out, or voting for a Libertarian get us closer to where we want to be? Everyone realizes that a conservative temper tantrum at the polls will only serve to grant power to the Democrats. Would this "teach the Republicans a lesson"?

Perhaps. But where would we be then? We are at war. The Democrats believe the war is Bush's fault. 9-11 was an aberation. It will not happen again even if we don't listen in on Al-Qaeda's phone conversations. We will be safe if we pull out of Iraq. There will NEVER be a justification for bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. There will be no more war for oil, and yet the Caribou in ANWR will still be safe from the predations of Exxon-Mobil.

Domestically, we can expect the likes of Charles Rangle and Ron "Red" Dellums to hold the reins of power in the House of Representatives. The Bush economy will not be destroyed; things will simply become more "fair" for women and minorities.

And, of course, the great gains we are making in the corrupt, tyrannical judiciary will come to a screeching halt. If you're alright with the "right" of irresponsible young women to hire doctors to shove a metal implement into the skull of their partially born babies, and to have them crack open the skulll, vacuum out the brain matter as the tiny arms silently flap around, and then throw the corpse into the trash, then the make-up of congress may not be of much importance to you when the next confirmation hearing comes around. Chairman Leahy- Say no more.

Politics is a TEAM SPORT, ladies and gentlemen, and one does not express one's dissatisfaction with the team's effort by aiding the opposing team.

Do not let the party of treason, greed, corruption, infanticide, demogougerey, hypocricy and judicial tyranny gain power.

It could take another forty years to get it back.

I would never withhold my vote in protest of anything. I will continue to vote a straight Republican ticket in general elections as I have done since 1964.

"Enjoy the Democratic victories in November engendered by divided conservatives.

The Dems are using the oldest trick in the book, and you're falling for it."

You are over simplifying it.

If the majority of people realized that America's freedom's could be lost...

If the educational system hadn't been filling our youth with liberal propaganda....

If the US media would attempt to report what is important for maintaining freedom...

Then the majority would recognize the Democrats and the RHINO's aren't DOING anything, but working against freedom. You are giving the Democrats too much credit. Time can bring a house down, if there is no maintenance done. When it collapses, it isn't necessarily done by a wrecking crew.

You insinuate that a Democratic victory in the elections would make some of us happy. You couldn't be farther from the truth. Republicans don't have a good "happy" record!

Were you "happy" when Bush's Dad did NOTHING after Tiannimen Square? Were you "happy" when the GOP failed to attack Clinton with the TRUTH, before Bubba's first election? Were you "happy" when the Republican Party slinked away when they were accused of shutting down the Govt.? Were you "happy" when the Republican's Failed to Remove Bubba from office? Are you "happy" now that the Republican's have more hands on the levers of power, and yet STILL fail to stand up to the Traitorous Left?

It's sad to watch America die right in front of my eyes!!! I have three children who will have to try to survive after the collapse of our Republic! It does NOT make me happy!!!! For all of Pat Buchanan's faults, he nailed it on the head in his book, "The Death of the West." As for me I will continue to vote for the person who I think best upholds Christian values.

The compromise on Immigration may be the death knell for the GOP, but a compromise on Gay Marriage/Abortion surely will be IMO. I can NOT actively support a party that would go against God's law!

As a side note...I have heard from some conservatives, the idea of "Bring it on!" In other words, they are tired of being slowly boiled to death by "our own." Let a Left wing Lib get in and try to inact their draconian, anti-Christian, anti-American culture....IOW....Let the war begin, NOW!

Sincerely

Don't forget that if the Republicans lose the majority, amnesty WILL get passed!!!

Oh!  I didn't realize that they were the majority.  You could have fooled me.

Maybe you should write them and tell them that fact since they have had the poop beaten out of them each and every time by the Democrats in legislation and any bill brought before the House or Senate.

You'd think some of our "conservatives" were born in a pumpkin patch yesterday!

When I see some of the responses here I almost expect them to begin with the, "As a life long Republican..." just like the leftists propaganda pieces.

Nobody, not in the history of this nation, and the illegal alien problem, from our Southern border was horrendous in the early 1950s and at other times as well, has EVER completely "sealed" any border; let alone the Southern one.

I know I'm late to the party, but I just had to respond to this innane comment masquerading as a profundity. The issue per se is not a purely physical border, but one that combines control with enforcement.

That means using our EXISTING laws and INFO systems to give prospective employers, lenders, insurers, et al the ability to make simple background checks verifying SS status, etc. This also means it is the constitutional responsibility of the executive (ie Bush) to enforce said laws.

Right now, the SS verification process merely confirms the SS# exists, not that it's tied to any specific person. Likewise, the IRS has over 9m invalid W-2s, where, you guessed it, the SS doesn't match with the filer.

It's a lie to say that (1) we don't know where these people are, and (2) we can't deport them (they will self-deport). The US has the weakest immigration laws in the world. Why is that?

It's because it satisfies both parties - votes for Dems, and profits (short-term) for Repubs. All this commentary about how bad the Dems will be for the WoT, etc misses the point: a few more years of open borders, and we won't have a country much longer.

Yep, I misspelled Pelosi.

The DSA keeps changing their website. They used to list all of their members. About 50 Democrats. Paul Welstone was a Executive Director.

Try this: http://www.dsausa.org/dsa.html

Your attitude leaves a lot to be desired...

Kind of like handing one over to Satan for rebuking? Sometimes we don't learn how to truely repent until we hit rock bottom. I've prayed many times for our Father to purge us of our iniquity. This may come as a result of Pres. Hilliary and Speaker Pelosi. How much more rock bottom can you get than this?

I have rarely seen on FR such an unrelenting amount of bitterness, pessimism and venom. Talk radio is hardly any different. Despite daily skirmishes in the culture war and the stupidity displayed by goverment at all levels, in many respects, things have never been better in this country.

While gas prices are currently high, they will, most likely be much lower come fall. The GWOT is definitely going our way, as representative goverment is taking hold in the Middle East. Congress is extending the tax cuts. The economy is humming. Depite the Fed's actions, interest rates are still at historic lows. Even though the tired MSM and liberal academia are still active, their days are numbered. Even illegal immigration is a challenge, but hells bells folks it ain' nothing new. It's only been goin' on for years.

Why all the disquietude and anxiety? Why all the pessimism? I was attracted to Reagan and conservatives in general because they were a happy and optimistic lot. But FR, talk radio and the pundits are quickly becoming the focus of doom and gloom, rivaling even modern day liberals.

It's spring. The flowers are blooming and birds are chirping. Love is in the air. Endless possibilites are out there. I refuse to participate in the negativity that is being displayed.

How about the Republicans in Washington not give their base a reason to do such things.

The only people you have to worry about are your reps.

Hey, I said, "If the 'Pubbies don't get with the program". I sincerely hope that they do, and win as a result. I just don't think it is possible for the Republicans to win without advancing their core values of limited government and fiscal responsibility. If they are not credible in these areas, people will have no reason to vote for them, and they will lose.

And if they fail to advance these core values, they will deserve to lose.

As for Rice 2008, just because Hillary! and McCain have been running since 2000 doesn't mean everybody has to. We have not even had the mid-terms yet. The time for serious candidates to get serious will be Spring '07.

Secretary Rice knows full well that the second she starts talking about the Presidency, her usefulness as Secretary of State will be over. It would be irresponsible for her to entertain such questions now, because she has serious work to do. Now is the time for preening prettyboys to strut on the stage. Next year about this time will be the time to get down to business.

I got a 20 dollar bill that says you're wrong.

I hope I am, buddy. I hope I am.

If the 'Pubbies hold, I'll buy you a beer. How's that? We can celebrate together.

If it's a TEAM effort?

I think it's time to form a new team.

Fascism on the right and communism on the left is not a choice.

Time to try something new.

The Democratic party ain't new - and it's been tried before.

Teaching the GOP a lesson will only ensure a Democratic victory.

If the 'Pubbies don't get with the program, they will go down to ignominious defeat in November, and they will deserve every bit of it.

Which will result in a Democrat victory, undoubtedly resulting in impeachment proceedings against Bush.

The country does not "deserve every bit of it".

I'm beginning to think that many of you "punish the GOP" crowd are DU plants. How else can one explain the call to defeat the GOP? (which is just another way of saying a DNC victory.)

I dont vote against something. I vote FOR something.

Just wait til the democrats win - totally throw open the borders, grant citizenship to anyone who strolls across, mandates affirmative action for Mexicans, gives them all welfare, raises your taxes to pay for it, surrenders the WOT to the jihadists and allow Iran to develop a nuclear bomb thereby ensuring Armageddon.

Believe me, you'll be only too happy to vote "against" something then!

The 'Pubbies will not lose because they are punished by their base (though that may well happen). They will lose because they are trying to sell an empty box to the moderates. They got away with that twice. They will not get away with it a third time.

In order to appeal to moderates, the Republicans have to be credible on limited government, fiscal responsibility and national security. If they cannot be credible on these issues, the moderates have no reason to vote for them, and will instead vote for the "Free Goodies" guys on the Democrat side.

You don't get it. If the invasion of illegal aliens is not stopped many conservatives decide to teach the GOP a lesson, the Democrats will be in office permanently, no matter what.

A bit late to this thread, but my two cents is...

I will be voting for conservative candidates this fall. It is up to the GOP to decide if they are going to actually put any on the ballot.

To put it another way, your typical moderate voter thought pattern goes something like this...

"... Well, the Democrats are offering all this cool free stuff, which would be pretty neat-o, if it were true. The Pubbies are not giving away so many goodies, but at least I can count on them to keep me safe and not bankrupt the country..."

If the moderates cannot count on the 'Pubbies to keep them safe and not bankrupt the country, why should they give them a vote?
