CA Senate Votes to Force All CA Public Schools To Promote Homo-, Trans-, Bi- Education
CRI ^ | 5/11/06 | Karen England

Posted on 05/11/2006 12:10:28 PM PDT by BurbankKarl

The California State Senate today passed SB 1437 (Kuel, D-Los Angeles), the most outrageous bill in the California legislature this year.

“This is just another example of how radical the State Senate has become,” said Karen England, Executive Director of Capitol Resource Institute.

“SB 1437 seeks to indoctrinate innocent children caught in the tug-of-war between traditional families and the outrageous homosexual agenda.”

SB 1437 requires textbooks to highlight the so- called positive contributions of homosexual and transgender individuals to society and would prevent textbooks, teaching materials, instruction, and “school- sponsored activities” from reflecting adversely upon persons based on their sexual orientation or actual or perceived gender.

“The State Senate is so far out of touch with California families that it is beyond alarming,” said England. “The traditional family is under attack and this is a latest—and most outrageous—attempt to corrupt the minds of our children.”

SB 1437 not only affects textbooks and instructional materials for kindergarten and grades 1-12, it also affects all school-sponsored activities.

The full effects of SB 1437 are broad and sweeping.

“Under SB 1437 school districts would also likely have to do away with dress codes and would have to accommodate transsexuals on girl-specific or boy- specific sports teams.”

“It is shameful that the same day parents are suing because many children are not prepared to pass a basic exit exam, the State Senate is preoccupied with promoting homosexual and transgender history in our schools,” stated England. “It is also shameful that the California Teacher’s Association is supporting this radical agenda when they should be focused on preparing our students in the fundamentals.”

CRI is committed to opposing legislation that uses our children as social-experiments and tramples upon long-standing traditional family values.

More on SB 1437

What Does “Gender” Mean?

CRI stated that SB 1437 will result in public schools being forced to accommodate transgender children on opposite-sex sports teams and that school textbooks would have to be revised to eliminate references to “mom and dad,” “husband,” “wife,” or other notions of a traditional family unit.

The reason these scenarios are real possibilities is because schools would be prohibited from casting any negative light on “actual or perceived” gender or sexual orientation.

Gender is defined, under California law, to include either the gender the pupil was born as or the gender the pupil perceives him/herself as (i.e., “actual or perceived gender”).

When SB 1437 prohibits discrimination based on gender, this doesn’t simply mean that girls and boys have to be given the same amount of homework. Because of the definition of gender, stated in the bill, public schools will have to accommodate transgender students and treat this behavior as normal and acceptable. Public schools will also have to encourage other students to do the same, regardless of their personal religious convictions or the convictions of their parents.

SB 1437 goes beyond dealing with “violence prevention” and “student safety.” It actively seeks to transform thoughts and attitudes of students to fully embrace transsexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality.

What Will Happen if SB 1437 Becomes Law?

Just to give you an idea of how completely outrageous this bill really is, here is a quote from a proponent of SB 1437.

Aejaie Sellers, executive director of the Billy DeFrank LGBT Center in Santa Clara told the San Jose Mercury News that she thinks SB 1437 – requiring gay and lesbian history lessons for students – is fantastic idea.

"Gays throughout history should be recognized, Who knows that the author of 'America the Beautiful,' Katharine Lee Bates, was gay?"

What will happen in history class if SB 1437 becomes law? Our children will be told that many historical figures allegedly had sex with persons of the same sex and that this is okay, regardless of what your parents or religious beliefs tell you.

And, what if it’s not conclusively proven that a certain historical figure was a practicing homosexual – will this be inferred? Will our school children be told, based on scanty information, that U.S. President Abraham Lincoln was homosexual?

“Not only has U.S. history been watered down and disregarded in our public schools, but now the precious little classroom time that is actually devoted to U.S. history will be spent teaching children that this or that historical figure slept with someone of the same sex and that is okay,” said Karen England of Capitol Resource Institute.

“The author of SB 1437, Senator Kuhel, has declared that she wants ‘open discussions’ about homosexuality in the classroom,” said England. “It is time for parents and taxpayers across California to stand up and denounce the hijacking of our public schools by extreme political activists.”

“Our children deserve to be educated. The indoctrination needs to stop now!”

Senator Kuhel, has declared that she wants ‘open discussions’ about homosexuality in the classroom,”

The problem comes in where "open discussions" to liberals in the classroom means shoving liberal idealogy down the throats of a captive audience with no chance for rebuttal.

From the Senate Analysis:
The National Center for Lesbian Rights points out that the lesbians, gays, bisexuals or transgender community represents a significant and important part of the history and social fabric of California. It quotes the 2000 Census, that found that there are more than 92,000 same-sex couples living together in California and that 67 percent of student who learned about Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, or transgenders issues at school felt safer in their schools.
I bet a lot of college roommates and other young adults would be surprised to find that they are being called a "same sex couple." Apparently the GLBT activists will stoop to any level of deception to sell their agenda.

Who knows that the author of 'America the Beautiful,' Katharine Lee Bates, was gay?

Who knows why that matters?

If she was straight would that be worthy of "celebration"?

The notes and the lyrics remain the same regardless.

“The State Senate is so far out of touch with California families that it is beyond alarming,” said England. “The traditional family is under attack and this is a latest—and most outrageous—attempt to corrupt the minds of our children."

And thus, the danger of voting for the liberal party. Many democrats oppose this type of legislation. This is how the far left liberals get their agendas passed. They get elected and then justify their radical positions as mainstream. For those FReepers who claim to not want to vote GOP next election, this is what waits for us on a national scale if we lose control. Id rather be pissed at my party and hopefully be able to sway their position, than let the nutballs have control.

Sexualizing children is a bad thing. It's bad enough that TV, billboards, all media culture are doing it. Now even in their little school classrooms sex will be introduced? And gay sex? Transgender? I haven't even fully understood transgender. How the heck is my 3rd grader supposed to?

The one thing we can be sure of is that at least the Gay Studies Textbooks will all be bilingual if they want anyone to be able to read them.

She's a liar.

If she wanted open discussions, then people who think that homosexual behavior is a sin or an abomination in the eyes of God would be allowed equal time to rebut those who claim there is nothing wrong with it. I suspect that any teacher who expressed an opinion that homosexuality is a deviant practice and that homosexuality leads to early death, would likely be fired and any student who expressed that opinion would likely be suspended or expelled.

When she says "open discussion" she means a one sided pro-homosexual behavior discussion with no dissent allowed.

Just one of these degenerates should be forced to tell us, exactly WHAT does someones sexual behavior have to do with history??? Does it make any history made any different depending on sexual behavior of the person making that history???

Let's say Rosa Parks was gay, do these degenerates think it somehow makes HER more important to the movement she started?

WHO cares what they did in private? This really isn't about that anyway, it's about changing history to support their agenda. And removing "gender specific" words from text books. As if kids aren't confused enough. God forbid they should be able to read and write.

Yep. For a bunch of people who claim to just want "acceptance", they're doing a terrible job of making us want to accept them.

BIZARRE

I guess that sports will no longer be exclusively for boys & girls -- Now it will include those that feel like boys and those that feel like girls. Hmmm... will those that feel like boys get grouped in with boys teams and will those that feel like girls get grouped in with girls teams OR will there be four "genders" of sports teams?
