K-Lo reporting. Great news.
If the Democrats controlled the Senate, this would have happened as well./s
it always helps when the nominee is a Yale man, because Arleen the Spectre will invariably go to bat for one of his own.
I presume you meant, "would'nt" as in never ever would have happened.
I saw a short clip of opening questions by Specter yesterday. Although I can't stand him, it looked like he took all the fire out of the Dems strategy with them. Kavanaugh answered every direct question with "no Mr. Chairman." In essence, that more or less ended Dem attack.
I think Specter has actually come through on the judges and tends to slap Schmukky around.
As opposed to when McCain runs the Senate and we get one or two judges near election day to pander to a base they know is upset while the rest of the judges have their reputations torn apart remaining in limbo because McCain/Lott/Linds refuse to kill the filibuster?
Yeah, I'm impressed. [sarc]
Yeah, Alito and Roberts were confirmed two days prior to the election./s
I'll give this to Specter, he was actually brave (as far as the characteristic can be ascribed to politicians) when he took on Anita Hill and cross-examined her. I don't think there are any other senators that would have done that and done it as effectively as he did. Certainly none of our moderate senators from the Northeast would have done what Specter did.
It looks more and more like Democrats will back down on this nomination.
Anyone watching Special Report last night? Hume reported that Bush was going to send a spate of conservative nominees to the Senate and keep forcing this issue until the elections. Sounds good to me. Lets bust the so called "Gang of 14."
