Hard Core Republicans Are Fleeing President
The Washington Post ^ | May 11, 2006 | JIm VandeHei and Peter Baker

Posted on 05/10/2006 7:15:13 PM PDT by Dems_R_Losers

Disaffection over spending and immigration have caused conservatives to take flight from President Bush and the Republican Congress at a rapid pace in recent weeks, sending Bush's approval ratings to record lows and presenting a new threat to the GOP's 12-year reign on Capitol Hill, according to White House officials, lawmakers and new polling data.

Bush and Congress have suffered a decline in support from almost every part of the conservative coalition over the past year, a trend that has accelerated with alarming implications for Bush's governing strategy.

The Gallup polling organization recorded a 13-percentage-point drop in Republican support for Bush in the past couple weeks. These usually reliable voters are telling pollsters and lawmakers they are fed up with what they see as out-of-control spending by Washington and an abandonment of core conservative principles more generally.

There are also significant pockets of conservatives turning on Bush and Congress over the their failure to tighten immigration laws, restrict gay marriage and to put an end to the Iraq war and the rash of political scandals, according to lawmakers and pollsters.

Bush won two presidential elections by pursuing a political and governing model that was predicated on winning and sustaining the loyal backing of social, economic and foreign policy conservatives. The strategy was based on the belief that conservatives, who are often more politically active than the general public, could be inspired to vote in larger numbers and would serve as a reliable foundation for his presidency. The theory, as explained by Bush strategists, is that the president would enjoy a floor below which his support would never fall.

It is now apparent that this floor has weakened dramatically and collapsed in places.

Having an academic discussion about reparations

An academic discussion? Is that what you all are calling it now?

How about linking us to the press release where Alan said he was just gonna TALK about reparations, not seriously consider them?

We can all wait while you find it.

If you had any shame, you'd be ashamed of these tactics.

I wonder why Simcox didn't file a libel suit. Any ideas? I see his next step as either going out in a blaze of glory or running for office. If he decides on politics he sure as hell can't have that charge hanging over his head. You as a Karl Rove colleague surly know that.....right?

John McCain Praises Pro-illegal Protests

Sen. John McCain is praising the recent wave of pro-illegal immigration demonstrations, saying that if the protesters hang tough they will succeed in forcing Congress to liberalize immigration laws.

Senator Unhinged won't be the nominee...and if AZ voters were smart, he'd start planning on retirement.

Bush has a soft spot Hispanics. He always has. There will be no wall on his watch and no matter how much you want to piss and moan he will not build one.

I agree, unfortunately.

The good news is we're not under a dictatorship. What Bush wants must go through those who represent us. We know what Bush wants and what he doesnt want. Bush cannot run again, but in 2006 there is an election and our leaders need to know what the will of the American People is. If they fail us, all the Freepers can go and vote straight republican by force or whatever... but we are just a discussion board...we are not the entire voting block of the United States. And there's no way to influence the American Voter and convince them that illegals are good, closed borders are bad if the only talking points we have are: "Bush'basher!", "Troll", "You have no reading comprehension!", "Invader from DU!" "racist!"... those are not arguements that change my mind about Amnesty and they accomplish nothing. If you dont believe me, look at where the democrats are today because those are the very same "talking points" they used against conservatives and they have been losing ever since.

IMO, border states should be held accountable for not securing their boundaries

It's funny you think that, our state and local LE are constantly being told it is the job of the Feds and they need to stay out of it.

I am heartened that so many of you who do not live anywhere near the border think "our" problems are not your problems. How would you feel if we felt that way when you have a problem in your state that needs federal attention?

We don't have tornados, earth quakes, or hurricanes here, so I guess the next disaster that strikes where federal assistance might be needed you wouldn't mind if I just told you it was your problem and not to bother me with it- right? Those of us who live on the border pay income taxes just like you do, we need services provided by the federal government, just like you do.

Protecting the borders has always been the job of the Feds, not individual states. It amazes me that so many of you do not see how this problem effects you. So do you not see us as part of the US? Funny you see it that way, I have always considered Oklahoma to be part of the US, and I always thought anything that seriously affected OK was my problem too. Maybe I am wrong, maybe it is each state on it's own.

Hey, I found your "academic discussion," EV:

Alan Keyes on reparations
Conservative calling for tax
exemption for descendants of slaves
Ill. Senate candidate Alan Keyes

Updated: 6:47 p.m. ET Aug. 18, 2004
Alan Keyes, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate who once referred to reparations as “an insult to our slave ancestors,” is now calling for a plan that would exempt the descendants of slaves from income taxes for at least a generation.

Tax exemption would give Blacks "a competitive edge in the labor market," because they would be cheaper to hire than federal tax-paying employee" and allow Blacks to be compensated "for all those years when your labor was being exploited," said Keyes, who is challenging Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama for the U.S. Senate seat.

Keyes' different turn
The ancestors of slaves would be precluded from paying federal taxes for a generation or two. The exemption would apply only to federal taxes, as opposed to state taxes, since slavery "was an egregious failure on the part of the federal establishment,” Keyes said. There would be no exemption from Social Security taxes, however.

Tax exemption would give Blacks 'a competitive edge in the labor market," because they would be cheaper to hire than federal tax-paying employee" and allow Blacks to be compensated "for all those years when your labor was being exploited.'

Ill. Senate candidate

Now you can take some time and explain to us all how BET and MSNBC "misunderstood" what Keyes was "really" saying.

You'd have to be HIGH to vote for LIEberaltarian.

That doesn't sound as bad as holding one's nose time after time, and voting for one of the corrupt government-malignancy parties.
