Disaffection over spending and immigration have caused conservatives to take flight from President Bush and the Republican Congress at a rapid pace in recent weeks, sending Bush's approval ratings to record lows and presenting a new threat to the GOP's 12-year reign on Capitol Hill, according to White House officials, lawmakers and new polling data.
Bush and Congress have suffered a decline in support from almost every part of the conservative coalition over the past year, a trend that has accelerated with alarming implications for Bush's governing strategy.
The Gallup polling organization recorded a 13-percentage-point drop in Republican support for Bush in the past couple weeks. These usually reliable voters are telling pollsters and lawmakers they are fed up with what they see as out-of-control spending by Washington and an abandonment of core conservative principles more generally.
There are also significant pockets of conservatives turning on Bush and Congress over the their failure to tighten immigration laws, restrict gay marriage and to put an end to the Iraq war and the rash of political scandals, according to lawmakers and pollsters.
Bush won two presidential elections by pursuing a political and governing model that was predicated on winning and sustaining the loyal backing of social, economic and foreign policy conservatives. The strategy was based on the belief that conservatives, who are often more politically active than the general public, could be inspired to vote in larger numbers and would serve as a reliable foundation for his presidency. The theory, as explained by Bush strategists, is that the president would enjoy a floor below which his support would never fall.
It is now apparent that this floor has weakened dramatically and collapsed in places.

That's exactly where I turned him off.
I don't know if you know this but Tony Snow has already released several rebuttals of published stories in MSM papers. Sounds like the White House is getting proactive.
Your mother was not forced into the plan. She had a choice. Obviously someone advised her it would be to her benefit so she signed up. As I said it was her option, she had a choice.

I am an ACTIVIST. I will do what needs to be done to solve this problem. But most Bush supporters aren't as feisty as I am, and they avoid these ugly threads like the plague.
IF there were ONE..........just ONE THREAD, where we joined together to get the work done, and the illegal maniacs would keep from foaming at the mouth in hatred for President Bush, WE JUST MIGHT START ACCOMPLISHING SOMETHING.
Is that what people want?? OR do they just want to sling mud at Bush and at US, and alientate us forever?
It's YOUR choice guys. Behave like rational conservatives, and this whole mess will settle into intelligent discussion and plans for activism.
Do you GET it??
I heard that today and I think he made it clear that he expects a correction. They may start yanking press credentials next?
Republicans in the House overwhelmingly supported the tough Sensenbrenner anti-illegal bill.
For the life of me, I can't see the logic of "punishing" Republicans by turning the House over to Democrats who overwhelmingly opposed that and every other effort to control the border.
Um...President Bush ran on a guest worker program in 2000 and 2004. It's hardly his fault that you can't be bothered to pay attention.
What kind of super power do you attribute to Rove? The leftist media does that, but in reality, he is one man, and he does NOT control the entire Republican party.
They are waking up. Let's HELP them, OK???
Do you want this problem solved, or not?
STRIKE THREE............you're OUT, agitator.
You are absolutely correct. And anybody with a clue to how Bush won would understand what kind of unity and army of people it takes.
Whoa, that web page is over run with buzz words, and double speak.
I doubt it; bad form. But they are going to (I assume) be more aggressive which is nice.
Nothing would be better than watching Tony Snow advance the "thumbsucker" aphorism while castigating certain journalists with specific inaccuracies of their "reporting".
One would hope.
I disagree.
The reason is that you do not consider the time domain. I would be willing to accept the "rats" for one election cycle if it brought back real conservatives in the following cycle.
I have done this once before. I sat out the 1992 election because I was so angry with the scumbag Bush senior. He broke his word on taxes, but he really stabbed us in the back when he supported the Brady bill. (I was proven right when he resigned from the NRA. There is no lower scumbag than one who resigns the NRA in support of the jack booted ATF thugs). / end rant
Well, we got Clinton. And we got sick of him pretty quick. And just two years later, 1994, Newt Gingritch swept in with over 50, yes that is right, 50 new republican house seats.
Was it worth sitting out 1992? Well, reasonable people can honestly disagree. I happen to think it was.
So, if we sit this one out or vote 3rd party and lose the house or senate, I am OK with that. We may get real conservatives the next cycle.
Sinkspur, you may put me on your list.
Here's another useful bit of history to counter the lies put out by the DNC media whores (about racism and Republicans):

ditto
So saying that a certain number were apprehended is misleading, if not a downright lie, because a large number were released into the U.S.
Which is another reason I don't believe a word of it.
Bush ran on a Guest Worker program, the ruse being that it would be temporary, and that someshow a successor Administration would usher these Guests back to Mexico. But that isn't what the Senate came up with and what Bush supported. They came up with Amnesty.
We've known all along that the Bush "Guest Worker" program was merely cover to sucker Conservatives into allowing Amnesty, which is exactly what the Bush Administration supported in the end. Yeah Bush lied to us, and if he wants the support of conservatives back it had best be on bended knee.
Yup. The election. But one would be stupid to ignore the will of the people less than 6 months before an election. Sometimes those polls and the man on the street can give us a feeling about where we stand.
In 2002, these polls did have the democrats winning seats. The polls claimed that the American people were unhappy with the GOP and they wanted change. The thing is, back in 04 those polls did not reflect the opinions of our co-workers, family and friends...they did not reflect the opinions of the man on the street...they did not reflect reality. So, the day after the 2004 election was a quiet day in DU and we were all gloating.
There is a difference this time. From my experience these low poll numbers are reflecting the man on the streets. The very fact that in some FR posts you see some calling others "Bush-bashers" is a testament that obviously there are people in a conservative website who are reflecting the low numbers we see in today's polls. But dont stop there... listen to Laura Ingraham, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mike Gallagher... it is different this time. I dont think this is a false alarm. I hope I am wrong. But if I am not, I hope we can change the direction our leaders are taking us on this last 6 month stretch to Nov. 2006.
In the end, if the dems take over... the buck stops in Washington DC.
If we band together in a strong, but rational way, WE can effect change. It IS possible.
But we can't spend our time ripping President Bush and the Republicans and accomplish anything at all.
Pro-active grassroots action...........those of us who support President Bush joining in, and not smacked around by Bush haters.
How many people are on this forum? What could we get done if we worked together?
Does anyone really want to DO something? The thing to do is apply pressue to the Republicans. They are are best hope, if we can enfuse them with some backbones. They listen to constituents, but only if we are rational and persuasive.
Can't we stop this nonsense, and get to work?
