Hard Core Republicans Are Fleeing President
The Washington Post ^ | May 11, 2006 | JIm VandeHei and Peter Baker

Posted on 05/10/2006 7:15:13 PM PDT by Dems_R_Losers

Disaffection over spending and immigration have caused conservatives to take flight from President Bush and the Republican Congress at a rapid pace in recent weeks, sending Bush's approval ratings to record lows and presenting a new threat to the GOP's 12-year reign on Capitol Hill, according to White House officials, lawmakers and new polling data.

Bush and Congress have suffered a decline in support from almost every part of the conservative coalition over the past year, a trend that has accelerated with alarming implications for Bush's governing strategy.

The Gallup polling organization recorded a 13-percentage-point drop in Republican support for Bush in the past couple weeks. These usually reliable voters are telling pollsters and lawmakers they are fed up with what they see as out-of-control spending by Washington and an abandonment of core conservative principles more generally.

There are also significant pockets of conservatives turning on Bush and Congress over the their failure to tighten immigration laws, restrict gay marriage and to put an end to the Iraq war and the rash of political scandals, according to lawmakers and pollsters.

Bush won two presidential elections by pursuing a political and governing model that was predicated on winning and sustaining the loyal backing of social, economic and foreign policy conservatives. The strategy was based on the belief that conservatives, who are often more politically active than the general public, could be inspired to vote in larger numbers and would serve as a reliable foundation for his presidency. The theory, as explained by Bush strategists, is that the president would enjoy a floor below which his support would never fall.

It is now apparent that this floor has weakened dramatically and collapsed in places.

Perhaps they're behind this big $50m suit against the Boy Scouts. It wouldn't surprise me.

I could care less what the dems are doing now. They have been largely an irrelevant butt sore as long as I can remember back into my childhood. The best they seem to have ever had to offer was Kennedy - and then only as an emotional thing which I do not understand unless comparing it in a way with Reagan.
The two men seem comparable in stature to their parties on the one hand; but, Kennedy couldn't hold an ethical candle to Reagan. No comparison, Reagan slaughters the guy hands down..
But the party isn't Reagan on the GOP side anymore than it is Kennedy on the Dem side. And if the Pubs are still gaining ground while losing it's base, why do the polls not show it. And I'm not talking about MSM polls.

The country is evenly divided and mostly sick of both sides.
You're the one playing with historic maps. I'm looking at where we are right now. The party has betrayed it's base and America as a whole. As it stands, if a dem gets into office, it will be your fault along with your party. You guys own it.. not me. We've had it with the same old playbook, same old promises and same old screwings year after year. They get into office and flip America the bird.
they go in with their own agendas and the rest of us can go to hell.. At some point there comes a time to answer for it.. like it or not. Go sit in front of a mirror and pretend a democrat just got elected to office and your party was roundly blown out. Now, do you sit around blaming others or do you deal with why you actually lost. Until you do the latter, you're screwed. Deal with it.

Alabama Court of Civil Appeals CIV 2114, 1979 97 hits

Whoever found this:
IN THE ALABAMA COURT OF CIVIL APPEALS CASE NO. CIV. 2114
MAUREENE BASS DEES, Appellant -vs- MORRIS S. DEES, Appellee.
ON APPEAL FROM THE CIRCUIT COURT OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY, ALABAMA ...really did some leg work.

From earlier in the thread, though not linked...FrontPageMagazine.com
Perhaps explaining the SPLC's 'Gay' rights activism, Dees was cited in 1979 by his ex-wife with a homosexual encounter during their marriage. She also cited numerous affairs with women including his daughter-in-law and underage stepdaughter. [Alabama Court of Civil Appeals CIV 2114, 1979]

Actually, not irrelevant at all. Note how many times Howlin used that precise detail, the portrayal of Connie Hair on that particular website, to shore up her argument against Simcox.

That is quite essential to her argument.

If it isn't relevant to the thread, you should take it up with her.

"Hard Core Republicans Are Fleeing President"

Well, if they're fleeing, they're obviously not "hard core Republicans." Probably never were. Hard core Republicans do not cut and run.

I don't know. I haven't looked into that or know anything about the suit. Should be pretty easy to find out though.
How about this in the mean time...remember those "vigilantes" everyone has been talking about?
Cross-hating lawyer part of border-ranch grab
San Diego attorney James McElroy – known for his iconoclastic quest to help an atheist remove the Mt. Soledad War Veterans Memorial cross overlooking the Pacific Ocean and his litigious attacks on pro-lifers – is also board chairman of the Montgomery, Ala.-based Southern Poverty Law Center, which recently won a lawsuit resulting in the transfer of an Arizona ranch from its American owner to two Salvadoran illegal aliens.

Comes a time to simply walk away from the mess.
You have no idea how many times have I contemplated just that! I just feel like I'd be letting Mr. Jim down if I did that and I've got too much respect for his end goals to do that.

Morning, Sir. Still trying not to offend too many too much. {;^)

Are you their spokesman? If so, we're in luck.

Are you the spokesman for Republicans?

Nothing on a $50m suit but I've found this so far...
S.D. agrees to pay ACLU $950,000, will cancel pact over Balboa Park site
Settlement: Pentagon says military can't sponsor Boy Scouts(nothing on anything awarded)
Seems to be the ACLU is the targeting organization.
Got anything more specific?

She got ya Laz. She would have to be a spokeswoman, not a spokesman. ;^

You've spent over 2 hours trying to dissect a post that had NOTHING to do with Connie Hair. I already pointed that out to you.

I attached two links. The first one was about Hair. And made my point. Deal with it.

I have discussed this issue with you, and you have responded. If spending time on threads making one's case carries a penalty, then you share it.

This is a new one. I have never known a poster to be castigated for time spent on a thread, or an issue. "Well you spent x-many minutes talking about this, you lose."

The one I responded over was in THIS thread. The other was in a different thread. If you want to drag arguments from thread to thread, I suggest you take that up with the mods.
