I sent a letter to Tommy Franks asking him to get into the Senate race a few weeks ago. His partner sent me back a really nice response that implied he was considering it.
Please go to tommyfranks.com to encourage him to get into the race. We only have until Friday. With enough encouragement, maybe there's still time to defeat Bill Nelson. I wish Harris could do it, but I don't believe she can. The text of my email to him follows.
You have done so much for this country already, I find it hard to ask you for more, but this country is in trouble. Please run for Senate this year against Bill Nelson. Democrats including Nelson have become beholden to internet/Hollywood extremists, some of whom explicitly hope for America to fall. They want to see us lose in Iraq if only to prove that their early opposition to the war was justified, and they have no plan to win.
Katherine Harris is becoming an embarassment to the party. If the stories of blaming her staff for her problems are true, she truly lacks the temperment to be a Senator, at least as a Republican. More importantly, you could bring so much to the Senate. We need at least one Senator that really understands the modern military and that isn't a professional politician. They say living in Washington makes one sell out their principles, but I trust you more than anyone else there now to stay true.
I read what you said about how the Constitution may not survive a WMD attack here. Those are the stakes right now. Do you trust Nelson to make the right decisions to help keep that from happening? I don't. That's what prompted this email.

How about for CIC in 2008.
It would be a tough call between Franks and George Allen.
I can't see ANY senator worthy of being CIC. Though Allen is one of the better guys.
Try "Commander in Chief Hillary R. Clinton" on for size. Inconceivable. Simply inconceivable.

I can't help but wonder whether (or not?!?) it should really be Porter Goss-- who holds substantial homestate equity -- who could take on Dim Nelson with a handy political move.
He has local and statewide name recognition --- could run as the embattled warrior who served many years in the House and would like to return to DC as a Senator.
Just thinkin' out loud.... easy on the flames...

After reading Franks' book, "The American Soldier", I think Franks would have an absolute aversion to politics. I don't think he suffers fools lightly and if he were in politics, his suffering would be inhumane.
