The Linda Schrenko trial has suddenly ended in Atlanta, as the former Georgia State School Superintendent has pleaded guilty.
In a deal with prosecutors, Schrenko pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to one charge of fraud and another of money laundering. Under the plea bargain, the former superintendent will serve an eight-year prison sentence, drop her right to an appeal and hand over other evidence in the case.
Schrenko was accused along with two co-defendents of diverting federal education money into her failed gubernatorial campaign four years ago. The $600,000 had been earmarked for hearing-impaired and honors students. Prosecutors claimed Schrenko also spent some of that money for a facelift.

And a Republican too.
First woman to win statewide office in Georgia.

About time, I knew she was in trouble for years.

I'm surprised that wasn't noted in the headline (and mentioned repeatedly in the article as well, of course).
I'd say this is an "after" picture ... she has that "flash-frozen" look. Maybe that's where some of the Federal education money went.
Now, if she had been a Dim, all the Dim's in the state would have closed rank and helped her go off to rehab, or just asked for a slap on the wrist.
The R's let the legal system work.

Well, at least she'll look good in prison!
As a Georgia resident I am FURIOUS at this moron.
She got off easy. In exchange for her plea and her testimony against her co-conspirators, the feds dropped charges that could have put her behind federal bars for most of her remaining life. As it is, I doubt this little psychopath will serve more than 3 of those 8 years.
