Bush Backs Brother Jeb for White House
By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer 9 minutes ago
President Bush suggested Wednesday that he'd like to see his family's White House legacy continue, perhaps with his younger brother Jeb as the chief executive.
The president said Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is well-suited for another office and would make "a great president."
"I would like to see Jeb run at some point in time, but I have no idea if that's his intention or not," Bush said in an interview with Florida reporters, according to an account on the St. Petersburg Times Web site.
The president said he had "pushed him fairly hard about what he intends to do," but Jeb has not said.
"I have no idea what he's going to do. I've asked him that question myself. I truly don't think he knows," Bush said.
Jeb Bush, 53, will end his second term as governor in January. His brother George ends his second presidential term in January 2009. Neither can seek re-election because of term limits.
Jeb Bush has repeatedly said he is not going to run in 2008.
But even his own father said no one believes him when he says he's not interested in running at some point. Former President George H.W. Bush told CNN's "Larry King Live" last year that he would like Jeb Bush to run one day and that he would be "awfully good" as president.
The Florida governor laughed when asked about his father's comments last June. "Oh, Lord," he said and shook his head no. "I love my dad."

Actually, according to the Platonic cycle of governments, monarchy follows democracy, so it's not unlikely. It may as well be the Bushes, as they are one of the few upper class families to retain the tradition of taking care of the nation rather than regarding it with distain.
Much as I hate to say it, America's tired of the Bushes.
Jeb has my vote whenever he decides to run.
You forgot your sarcasm tag.
Frankly, I would take the top 500 from any country including mexico and make them citizens. Jeb does not have the power to make florida's top 500 citizens so he gave them in state tuition instead.
Frankly, if I were a state governor, I would award full scholarhips to the top 500 from any state that would go to school in my state.
Noone ever gets enough Bush.
Not to mention several here whose hair just caught fire. LOL Love it.
Seems to me that our best president in recent times, Reagan, wasn't upper class. Telling.
Any of those three nominated, areafiftyone. Can anyone imagine the concessions to terrorists from any Democrat except Zell Miller.
And Jeb would run from Texas? No wait, from Connecticut where his father's from? No wait, from D.C.?
As someone who lives in Florida, I can tell you that Jeb is the best of the three. By far.
Smarter, more articulate (thank God) and no goofy looking smirk.
Welcome to FR
The eight years of GWB will likely see more illegal immigration than any other eight in our history. I'm not anxious for more; so a Primary candidate other than Jeb will get my support.
We don't need a Bush OR a Clinton dynasty.
This smacks too much of oligarchy.
I guess after reading his opinion polls the President has his pulse on what the people want.
If I ever contemplate voting for another Bush get me committed.
I'm so looking forward to George P. Bush competing with Chelsea Hubbell in 2020. NOT.
It used to be cute when Bush made comments like this. Now it makes me wince. We need new blood, desperately.
What a disaster. The last thing people want is another political dynasty.
True, especially the kinds that like all the illegal entries by the backdoor!
Is Jeb's wife still trying to smuggle $20,000 designer ball gowns into the country?
Frankly, if I were a state governor, I would award full scholarhips to the top 500 from any state that would go to school in my state.
Frankly, someone as loose with the public purse-strings as you seem to be should be kept as far away from public office as possible.
