Bush Backs Brother Jeb for White House

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer 9 minutes ago

President Bush suggested Wednesday that he'd like to see his family's White House legacy continue, perhaps with his younger brother Jeb as the chief executive.

The president said Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is well-suited for another office and would make "a great president."

"I would like to see Jeb run at some point in time, but I have no idea if that's his intention or not," Bush said in an interview with Florida reporters, according to an account on the St. Petersburg Times Web site.

The president said he had "pushed him fairly hard about what he intends to do," but Jeb has not said.

"I have no idea what he's going to do. I've asked him that question myself. I truly don't think he knows," Bush said.

Jeb Bush, 53, will end his second term as governor in January. His brother George ends his second presidential term in January 2009. Neither can seek re-election because of term limits.

Jeb Bush has repeatedly said he is not going to run in 2008.

But even his own father said no one believes him when he says he's not interested in running at some point. Former President George H.W. Bush told CNN's "Larry King Live" last year that he would like Jeb Bush to run one day and that he would be "awfully good" as president.

The Florida governor laughed when asked about his father's comments last June. "Oh, Lord," he said and shook his head no. "I love my dad."

One more terror attack in this country and Jeb Bush would be in in a heartbeat.

You need to think about what you post. Another terrorist attack is certainly not welcomed by any rational person, nor would it automatically qualify him for POTUS or make him the best person for the job.

It would be worth it, just to hear the weeping and whailing of the liberals.
OMG, can you just IMAGINE?!!!!

"Gawd, why don't we just abolish the Electoral College and create monarchal family dynasties to rule this country?"

The scary part is that the above line of thinking is being taken seriously by 'conservatives', with respect to Bush, on Free Republic.

I got a better idea:

Draft Michael Reagan for President. He has the smarts, he is right on ALL the issues, he possesses his Dad's gift of communication, humor, and good judgment.

I can think of FAR worse candidates at this point.

And to echo another poster?

"No More Bush, No More 'Toon"

If America wants a political family 'dynasty', make it Reagan. NOT Ron Jr. (GAWD forbid!), but Michael, the REAL son of the Gipper.

While I understand the theoretical problem people have with "political dynasties", in the US we have a system where a successful presidential candidate first has to achieve the support of the members of his own party and then has to achieve the support of the American public.

While JEB becoming President would create the appearance of a dynasty, would it really be such? Aren't we supposed to look past appearances and towards matters of substance.

A guy like JEB shouldn't be helped by the appearance of a dynasty ... but neither should he be hurt by one (as it sounds like a lot of people are suggesting). He's the elected and apparently successful governor of a major state that has had a LOT of problems to surmount recently, so he deserves fair consideration as his own person on his own merits.

If Hillary Clinton announced this afternoon she was leaving the Democratic Party and joing the GOP some in here would claim it as a victory for the GOP and vote for her because she's a Republican.

Yes, that is true. There has never been a "true conservative" President as defined by some around here. ;~) Sorry I missed your point the first time.

Sadly, I have to decline.

On many issues Jeb is far preferable to any of the candidates that have expressed interest.

Cracks about dynasties do not intimidate me. I'm more interested in ideas and action to back up these reported ideas than bloodline.

Right now, though, I am less than pleased with a certain policy supported by the family. While I like Jeb, and I like the President, while I would still vote for this President and in no way shape or form retract my support, until this one issue is resolved rightly It will now be a key area in which I assess candidates for office in future. He fails in this arena and will not receive my encouragement for a run at the W.H. Another run at Florida's Governor office? Sure.

Right now outside of Pres. George Bush, there is no one better to lead this Nation.

Winner of the goofiest comment of the day award.

I would pick Dick Cheney over GWB for President any day of the week, truth be told.

Jeb Bush has repeatedly said he is not going to run in 2008.

He wouldn't be the first Bush to backtrack.
