Taking job because it's a phenomonal opportunity ... will command 14,000 Irish police... her daughter is living in Ireland, too...

There will also be Monday Morning Quarterbacks...

Mayor Menino: "It's a blow to me personally, but she leaves behind a really good command staff..." (he is NOT happy about this; she was his great affirmative action feminist hope)

She won't run the Irish National Police, she will run a new agency that will oversee the police and institute "best practices" etc. "Garda Inspectorate"

Woodehoo.
I have every expectation that her replacement will be yet again worse.
No one cares.

she will run a new agency that will oversee the police and institute "best practices" LOL! There have been seven murders in Boston in the last seven days; 21 since the beginning of the year. I guess Boston's "toughest in the nation gun laws" haven't been working-out as she promised.
To: pabianice
She was just another affirmative action cop. I am sure Mumbles will replace her with another one.

Maybe they should try getting tough on criminals instead. Just a thought.

"We have one big problem in this city ... violence in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan..." When my Dad was a kid, his family lived in lots of Boston areas, Cambridge, Southie, and the North End for a bit. He told me that when the local mob decided to rub someone out, they'd usually take the rubbee to Roxbury, Dorchester, or Mattapan. Reasoning was: No one there would report it for a while. No one there would know who the guy was or why he was there. No one there would cooperate even if they saw something. And no local kids would discover the scene and be a potential witness!

Maybe I'm missing some angle, but it seems that there is an ocean of difference between treatment this lady is getting versus the treatment an American of Mexican descent would get if she took a top copish job back in Mexico.
As an American, shouldn't she be worried more about American crime?
To: pabianice
I guess she'd rather deal with the NRA, afterall, in Boston she could get shot.

My opinion is that most policing should be giving young needy troublemakers a good kick in the backside before they become thugs. Allowing teacher to do the same would also help.
Of course that would put alot of social workers, lawyers, psychologists, etc. out of work and, I think, a lot of kids out of jail.

Why would an American police officer take a job like that?
She was bound to get the ax soon, but this seems a bit odd from where I sit.
