I often hear from readers who wonder why I so thoroughly dislike George W. Bush.
It's simple. Living in New Jersey, as I do, I spend a lot of time arguing politics with liberals. In the pre-Bush era, I found it easy to win such arguments. I have fond memories of defending the policies of Ronald Reagan back in the good old days. "He called the Soviet Union an evil empire!" the liberal would say.
"But it is an evil empire," I would point out...
...Before George W. came along, conservatives were on the winning side of every major issue. We were the ones who disdained the Beltway class, who pushed for smaller, more responsible government. Remember term limits? The balanced-budget amendment? In the Clinton era, the GOP promised such reforms...
...But to call Bush a traitor to his political philosophy is to imply that he had one. He didn't. You can read through Bush's various speeches over the years without coming up with the slightest hint of a coherent system of thought. In this, he's the opposite of Reagan...
...That's George W. to a T, an entertainer past his prime. Only his fellow entertainers -- Rush Limbaugh et al. -- still pretend he knows what he's doing...
As I am fond of reminding readers, I was onto this fraud from the first. In November of 1999 I urged that he drop out of the GOP primary. In the spring of 2004, I suggested that renominating him would lead to disaster for the party. The only good I can see coming out of this mess is that it opens a whole new line of argument against the liberals: After Bush, no president will ever be trusted again.

Don't forget the Michael Savage lowbrows.
Pat Buchanan also considers himself a Conservative who knows better than Bush.
Or nobrows.
Why I'm voting for this clown
Recently, I spoke to an audience of college kids. The subject was our president. For 20 minutes or so, I gave them my assessment of George W. Bush, that he is a spoiled rich kid who wasted his youth partying with his frat-boy buddies and then woke up one morning and decided to become president. I pointed out that his domestic policy has been disastrous and his foreign policy idiotic.
Blah blah all the old frat boy stuff.
Or unibrows. :)
It never ceases to amaze me how the diehard Bush supporters can claim that the current opposition to Bush over illegal immigration is some kind of a ongoing trend where conservatives want it all.
We've held our nose as Bush expanded federal involvement in education, massively increased spending, and lobbied for a Medicare drug benefit that this country simply cannot afford - just for starters.
And now that Bush is promoting a guest worker program, something that history in both this country and in Europe shows is a collosally bad idea - and now the right is finally saying No Mas for damn good reasons, and all of a sudden WE WANT EVERYTHING OUR WAY?
Those are the words of an apologist with no solid position on which to stand on an issue. When your position is bankrupt, blame the other guys.
Unabrows
"...like a two year old.. I want all the toys on my terms when I say.. "
Or like an adult citizen: I want my elected officials to respond to issues. I want my elected officials to keep their promises.
Oh wait, I guess I should be republican first and take whatever b.s. they decide to shove down my throat?
Apparently, the Paleocons such as Buchanan, Novak, and Mulshine have never really liked Bush because of Bush's association with the Neocons. As a Conservatarian, I am beginning to really get irritated at the Paleocons acting like children. Especially of their hatred of Israel.
Dang! You beat me to it! ;-)
"When your position is bankrupt, blame the other guys."
Well said, thanks.
Everybody knows what is gong to happen, but nobody wants to talk about it...We're going to be hit again by terrorists who infiltrate across our southern border. Bush is more concerned about offending foreigners (dubai, China, Mexico, Pakistan...) than protecting this country.
I was disgusted with Clinton, "wagging the dog" and all...but the first attack on the WTC ultimately failed. Bush's neglect is post 9-11, and given that, leaving the border undefended, approving UAE involvement in port security, letting China run the inspections of our container ships Etc, Etc, Etc is worse than anything Clinton did IMO.
Bush should know better. He has destroyed the party, and this next election will be the proof.
He has left us vulnerable through our southern border, and the next attack will be proof.
Nothing like inciting a flamewar to avoid debating the underlying issues.
Never figured out why unibrows didn't just shave above their nose.
"The Paul Mulshine Conservative is the reason for President Bush's low polling numbers."
If Mulshine is a Conservative, I am Betty Grable.
He has been writing anti Bush articles for the last six years. Him and John Farmer are two of the biggest DNC water bucket carriers that the Drive By Media have.
I hate to break it you, but our Southern Border was open before Bush came into office..
