While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen -- and telling the Mexican government where they are. According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed.
"It's not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be," Mario Martinez said Monday.
"This ... simply makes two basic statements -- that we will not allow any lawlessness of any type, and that if an alien is encountered by a Minuteman or arrested by the Minuteman, then we will allow that government to interview the person."
Minuteman members were not so sanguine about the arrangement, however, saying that reporting their location to Mexican officials nullifies their effectiveness along the border and could endanger their lives.
"Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time," said Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels.
"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."

Did I miss it? Rummy's on now.
Only Americans, Conservative Americans at that, have to obey the laws. DemocRATS and illegal aliens are free to disregard all American laws, they don't apply to them.
Agreed. And not only that, something just dawned on me, that I don't think has been mentioned yet on this thread.
What about the "OTM's?"
If our Border Patrol/gov't is expected to inform the Mexican gov't of the MM's position, who else gets this information, other than "their well intentioned marxican migrants expecting to better their lives in the US?"
Perhaps some of the Minutemen crossed beyond their guidelines. Wouldn't be the first time it's happened on this sort of thing.
Quite probable. .....and ironically enough that strategy would have a far greater chance of bringing more Hispanics to the GOP than the current pro-amensty strategy. The GOP should just stick to limited gov't (something most have all but forgotten), low taxes, anti-abortion, pro-family, pro-2nd amendment, and pro-national defense (which obviously includes border defense). Doing so would assure success in every election.
NO not yet. Rummy was running off...wait keep tuned...
Next you will saying that we are taking the rights of the drug addicts away by inhibiting their ability to procure drugs coming across the border.
Take your "International Law" made up by third world dictators and and put it somewhere else.
Those things don't matter if the country is Balkanized.
Controlling the invasion of illegal foreign nationals is a matter of national security and the GOP are actually encouraging the invasion.
Controlling our borders is also a huge component of the WOT which again the GOP is actively derelict in it's duties.
The war in Iraq is going to be a complete waste after this as the illegal immigration issue is destroying any credibility that the administration ever had. Unless the GOP reverses course before November, the democrats are going to sweep into power and they will pull the troops in Iraq home early and allow Iran to swoop in.
The best thing we can do for our country is to warn the GOP that they are going to out of power for good unless they start listening on this issue. Of course many won't care as they will just switch parties.
If you give your ID info to the police, it ends up in the arrest report, and that report is public information, accessible to everyone--including consular officials.
Ok thanks. I'll wait. I think they are having a pligamist(sp?) on next. But, I'll wait.
What we have NOW:
"La Raza" - Democrats
"La Raza lite" - Republicans (of the country club/establishment genre)
"Conservative" - perhaps a new, as yet unformed, party
Some random thoughts, probably don't mean anything:
Remember NAFTA? The Democrats opposed it, and if G. Bush (the father) had been re-elected, it probably would not have passed due to solid Democratic opposition. But Clinton won, and, lo and behold, he _supported_ NAFTA and got it passed.
Remember "welfare reform"? The Democrats opposed it, and if G. Bush (the father) had been re-elected, it probably would not have passed due to solid Democratic opposition. But Clinton won, and, lo and behold, he actually supported the notion of "ending welfare as we know it", and eventually signed legislation that did just that (not without considerable pressure from the newly-Republican-controlled Congress).
Now the hot-button issue is "border control". Obviously, the overwhelming majority of Pubbies in Congress currently DON'T want any controls, out of respect for the president's position. Nor do the 'rats. But what would happen if Hillary got in, running on the platform of a secure Southern border, and Republicans retained some leverage in Congress?
We were only able to get true "free trade" with the Democrats in control (I was opposed to that, still am).
We were only able to get meaningful "welfare reform" with the Dems in control (I supported that).
Could it be remotely possible that we will only get effective border controls with a future Democratic president?
Again, just some thoughts...

ping to my #503
Oh good grief, now they're talking about the pervert, Warren Jeffs.
No, I won't.
Take your "International Law" made up by third world dictators and and put it somewhere else.
It's the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, we are a party to that treaty, and the relevant clauses were put in place by the United States and other non-Third World countries to put a lid on dictators' ability to make American citizens disappear.

Good question!
Good point, but it makes me livid what Bush is doing with the illegals. AND my Dim Governor also no matter what good legislation the Repub State houses send her she just Vetoes. GOP anxious as governor's vetoes pile up
This whole immigration issue makes me furious. It is getting pretty close to time for another American Revolution. It looks like we might have to fight to get our country back from the sellouts in Washington.
I have always loved and respected George W. Bush; but, he needs to grow a brain and a set of steel balls for this one. This is a total sellout and outrage.
The VCCR does not make any such distinctions.
"All truth goes through three stages.
First it is ridiculed.
Then it is violently opposed.
Finally, it is accepted as self-evident."
