U.S. tipping Mexico to Minuteman patrols (telling the Mexican government)
Daily Bulletin ^ | 5/9/2006 | Sara A Carter

Posted on 05/09/2006 6:21:25 AM PDT by IrishMike

While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen -- and telling the Mexican government where they are. According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed.

"It's not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be," Mario Martinez said Monday.

"This ... simply makes two basic statements -- that we will not allow any lawlessness of any type, and that if an alien is encountered by a Minuteman or arrested by the Minuteman, then we will allow that government to interview the person."

Minuteman members were not so sanguine about the arrangement, however, saying that reporting their location to Mexican officials nullifies their effectiveness along the border and could endanger their lives.

"Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time," said Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels.

"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."

Got anything besides that? I don't have the means to view it.

Thank you. Sometimes I wonder if I communicate effectively via the written word. It's nice to know that I got through to at least one person. :o)

Because there are more important things for the federal government to do than track down every illegal alien who is otherwise law-abiding and just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families

And you know this to be true for most of them? Maybe you'd better ask those American citizens who have had a family member killed by an illegal behind the wheel, or those whose children have been offered drugs by one of them, or those who had to wait hours in a hospital emergency room because it was flooded with them. And, no our government does not have "better things to do" than track down people who illegally cross our borders. The Open Door Policy is long over.

"No one has respect anymore for someone shooting from the hip!"

I hate being manipulated with my own protectiveness, though. There's a lesson here about discernment.

I think catching terrorists and, you know, actual criminals are more important, for starters. I have also wondered how many illegal aliens have killed American citizens. According to MADD.org: "in 2004, 16,694 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes . . ."

http://www.madd.org/stats/1112

So, even if all 16,694 were U.S. citizens killed by drunk illegal aliens, yes, I think it is safe to assume MOST (more than 1/2) of all illegal aliens are not killing U.S. citizens. Same goes with drug dealers (in fact, I would venture to guess MOST drug dealers are U.S. citizens - my sister is LAPD in South Central so I will ask her if she knows) and hospital ERs.

It's not in my top 100 either, and I live in southern California - is that "close enough" for you?

I posted the actual numbers above (if you can't get the link to work) which included not just the deportation stats, but also other "formal removals" and "voluntary departures" - that all added up to more than 6 million illegal aliens expelled since Bush took office - let's just say that it is a hypothetical: would 6 million in 6 years at least be more than "nothing"?

You never did answer my question above whether you were being sarcastic - you really think Tancredo can be elected POTUS?!

Here they are again: I was asking if your post # 1600 was sarcastic and whether there has ever been a POTUS elected directly from the U.S. House of Representatives?

Good post.

And I agree that one factors in the importance of the illegal immigration issue in one's life IS if one has been "mugged" or not.

There are many non empathetics in this country but fewer and fewer each day.

And it's too bad that many are being punished for merely being the messengers.

has ever been a POTUS elected directly from the U.S. House of Representatives?

There is always a first time. As a lawyer you should learn that valuable tenet.

So, your post # 1600 was not sarcastic then? Good to know.

P.S. I don't think I've ever had a temper tantrum here at FR - ask anyone - I'm pretty calm considering.
