Frist: Country needs to lock down borders

CHATTANOOGA — Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said the United States should "lock down" its borders and create a better temporary worker program.

Frist, R-Tenn., spoke with reporters before giving a commencement speech at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's graduation ceremony Sunday.

"The No. 1 problem we face today when it comes to immigration are the people streaming across our border and the lack of border security," Frist said, adding that the Senate will begin debating immigration reform legislation next week. "It's a national security issue, an economic issue and a humanitarian issue."

He also said that drilling for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and investing in alternative energy sources like nuclear energy would help drive down the price of fuel.

"Given the fact that everyday men and women are suffering under the burden of skyrocketing gas prices, (I hope) they will allow us to drill," he said.

Mark Brown, spokesman for the Tennessee Democratic Party, said Frist's answers to the country's major problems represent little more than "piecemeal solutions."

"It's election-year posturing, and that is not what we need," Brown said.

During the commencement address to 700 graduating students, Frist encouraged them take risks in their lives and punctuated his advice with experiences from his own career as a transplant surgeon.

"When everybody else says 'no,' be that woman or man that says 'yes,'" he said. "Don't be afraid to leave the place in your life that's comfortable."

Frist also gave the commencement address Saturday at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis.

The current alien invasion from the south serves BOTH the elites who run Mexico – and many of the OTHER states of Central and South America -- and the political ruling class who increasingly run the United States:

· It takes pressure off the 25 families who control approximately 80% of the wealth in Mexico. Without the northern “safety valve” (the United States) for their poor, those poor MIGHT be inclined to do what America’s early colonists found it necessary to do: Revolt! Parenthetically, that would be MY suggestion for them: Instead of fleeing here – and converting “here” to a larger, more poverty infested version of “there,” they ought to stay there and make “there” into their version of “here,” whatever that would be. Revolutions ARE messy and there are no guarantees that they will produce the desired result. But – according to one T. Jefferson – they are often necessary. Never forget that THIS country was born in revolution!

· For the NAFTA/CAFTA coveting US national ruling class – especially those who, in varying degrees, quest after some sort of One-World utopia run by guess who? – it provides yet another level of insecurity and tension among the indigenous populace which can be used to justify new and more draconian limits to freedom here. Instead of securing the borders, allow millions of illegals to come in and when the natives become alarmed, require a national ID card. “Your papers, please!” will soon become a phrase familiar to all. It’s Mr. Franklin’s trade of freedom for (false) security. It’s also the time-tested Hegelian Dialectic the One-Worlders have successfully worked like a rented mule.

While they occasionally squabble among themselves, the elites of history have ALL had one thing in common: They will do ANYTHING to remain in charge. And throughout that history, except for the 230 year-old experiment in freedom called “America,” most of the men who have walked the earth have lived as slaves to these elites whether they call themselves kings, emperors, potentates, sultans, czars – or presidents.

Get ready, folks. Unless some SERIOUS changes are made and the handful of Americans who CARE about liberty get involved, that history will almost certainly repeat here.

Ping ... remember that letter campaign I mentioned earlier today?

Great news! I hope he means it. Frist isn't known for having the firmest backbone - the man is able to do a 180 on the drop of the hat.

Get some more letters out there! If we can get the Senate to act on this issue with something meaningful (not money but action) then maybe the midterm elections can be saved. :-)_

I first gegan my assault on court jester when he came out in favor of harvesting newly conceived humans at embryo age ... he should have known better but it was telling of his 'christianity' and his medical caprice.

We HAVE to keep this mail flurry going. For all of the fluff, and typical politicking, I think we're finally getting noticed by these goons we call our "senators"

If anything gets his attention, it should the poll results here on FR regarding immigration and turnout. FreeRepublic probably offers a good cross section of the conservative (not republican) base.

If over 50% of freepers are planning to either stay home or vote 3rd party if something isn't done about immigration then that should be a pretty clear message to the GOP.

I hear what Frist is saying, now what will he actually do. We've been here before. I don't trust Frist at all and fully expect him to do the opposite of what he just said.

I don't trust Frist to do what he says any more than I trust a democratic senator. To be fair, Frist does it out of weakness while the democrats do it out of deceit but the result is the same.

OK, AFTER you lock down the borders, I'll discuss any issue.

With you 100%..

Borders first, talk after..

In Missouri, the DMV ( Dep. of Motor Vehicles ) has instituted what I think is a version of the "Real ID" program..
Anyone renewing their license must present Birth certificate and Social Security card now.. ( possibly other papers as well.. )

"Your Papers, Please".. NOW.!!

I can't say if any one or other or both options are the best way to go, but I'm willing to try anything..

All I can say is, we need to get conservatives everywhere to agree to a strategy ( or two ) and then put out the word to congress, conservatives, america..
Then get some backbone and do it..

"Conservative" congress needs a good kick in the A$$ to get it's attention..

Frist has heard from me at least a dozen times. It's important that we keep the heat up. To be fair, I'm now a Tennesseean, so it makes sense that I'm contacting him.

Frist is one of those who I think we can reach. He introduced a very good bill when this whole debate began. It didn't grant amnesty, it hit employers with fines if they hired illegals, and it required fencing part of the border. Tancredo actually liked Frist's bill.

Problem is, the minute it hit the floor it got diluted and Frist didn't fight for it. Get that man to fight (I know, tall order) and we might get somewhere.

Has he flip-flopped on that issue? I haven't kept up with that one very closely lately.

Come voting time, I'm doing a write-in on all the ballot selections and entering "Leah Dawn". I figure my dog can make decisions better than those politicians we currently have elected.

I'm beginning to think congress is listening. flush all your reform legislation and enforce our existing immigration laws first.

Do you think that Frist might not actually be the guy in charge of the senate? I'm starting to wonder if Lott and McCain are really the power holders and Frist is just a figurehead.

Well....at least Frist has sort of heard the messages sent.

The 100.00 gas vouchers have been replaced by mention of ANWR.

Border security now takes center stage with stronger language.

Talk is still cheap.

Pass ANWR, drop talk of amnesty (guest worker) for now and secure the border. When the border is secured, THEN they'll have built enough faith to discuss any "reforms" they have in mind.

IMO, McCain & Lott are clearly in charge.

Partly because the Majority is small enough a few Republicans can join together and hijack the agenda.

Partly because Frist intends to leave the Senate after this session. IMO, he should have stepped down before now. As a result of his continued stay we have Republicans jockeying for position after he is gone. This could have been avoided had a permanent member been chosen.

Looks like the bricks are hitting home with him.

Unfortunately, we'll be buried too because of hacks like him.
