Feingold to Democrats: Stand Up to Bush

WASHINGTON - Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record), a potential anti-war candidate in the 2008 presidential field, urged fellow Democrats on Monday to show more backbone in challenging President Bush on Iraq.

"We must get out of our political foxholes and be willing to clearly and specifically point out what a strategic error the Iraq invasion has been," Feingold, D-Wis., told a National Press Club audience.

He said some Democrats in Congress gave in to "intimidation" by the Bush administration when they voted to authorize the war in 2002, and warned: "If we do not show both a practical and emotional readiness to lead in the fight against terrorism, we will lose in '06 and we will lose in '08, just like we did in '02 and '04."

In March, Feingold called for the censure of Bush over the administration's warrantless surveillance program. So far, only two Democrats, Tom Harkin of Iowa and Barbara Boxer of California, have signed on as co-sponsors.

Feingold, who also has proposed that U.S. troops leave Iraq by the end of the year, rejected criticism that such a move could lead to chaos.

"I believe the situation would probably get better" if U.S. troops left, he said. "The lesson of insurgency is when the occupying power leaves, it tends to lessen, rather than increase, the level of violence."

White House spokesman Alex Conant responded: "We must defeat the terrorists by denying them safe haven and the president will continue to listen to our commanders for what troop levels are needed. The U.S. must stand with the brave citizens of Iraq as their new democracy grows."

Feingold, who insists he won't think about a presidential run until after this year's congressional elections, nonetheless made a few joking references to a potential campaign.

Asked whether he and his campaign finance reform ally, Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), R-Ariz., have talked about their respective presidential ambitions, Feingold deadpanned, "I think he'd beat me in Wisconsin."

Feingold not only won't be President, he won't get his party's nomination.

Ain't gonna happen. I think his delusion of grandeur will be short lived.

The electorate doesn't want anyone to point out any errors, it wants to hear precisely what the Democrats would do to change the situation. ....and as of yet all we've heard is mindless criticism from those Donkeys, no solutions.

Russ el-Slimeroad (Moonbat-Al Qaeda) said:
"The lesson of insurgency is when the occupying power leaves, it tends to lessen, rather than increase, the level of violence."
Only after the level of violence reaches a climax shortly after the insurgency gains power, a climax of what, on another continent, would be called "ethnic cleansing".

"..."I believe the situation would probably get better" if U.S. troops left, he said. "The lesson of insurgency is when the occupying power leaves, it tends to lessen, rather than increase, the level of violence." ....."

What " Lessons " is he in particular referring to ?

The British " Left " and America went right on to BECOMING a NEW COUNTRY - FREE from the Control of the English.

Is he comparing those British - who were trying to keep their New Colonial Empire under their TOTAL control, with The World's " Coalition Forces " ? - that are HELPING the NEWLY ELECTED Iraqi Parliment by trying to keep those who would PREVENT that from happening with "Insurgent" ; Attacks , Beheadings, Kidnappings and Murders of the New Police forces and NEW Iraqi Military plus all those who have helped ?

They STILL can not call a Terrorist a TERRORIST ! can they!--it is STILL " Insurgency " .

I guess after WORLD WAR TWO --with all the ( not really fully known or Reported back then or today!) " insurgents " STILL left through-out Germany ; snipering the Allies , cutting electrical & telephone lines, planting BOMBS, etc..
That "WE" should have just Up and LEFT Germany TOO - to let ANYONE pick up the pieces? Fly BACK from Argentina or Brazel?

Man! They are STILL finding hundreds of beheaded Iraqi policemen AND their FAMILIES buried everywhere--PLUS all those too who had been helping the NEW Gov't!

What a JERK!

But remember the dem motto," Victory goes to those who SCREAM the loudest AGAINST : The War, Bush, Our MILITARY and how GREAT Socialism & Communism work!
With "DEAN" hanging in the Breeze with Hillary-who will be NEXT to take their place amoung ANSWER & MovingOn ?

DAB

They don't like Presdient Bush, either.

Nor do they like anything prefaced with "Big" - i.e. Big Oil, Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, etc. Whoops, I'll take that back. Big Government and Big Law are two perennial favorites.

There! How's that? Doesn't that make everyone want to rush out and cast a rat vote? If not, they can always add to the "we hate..." list, until everyone is convinced.
