I'm more upset with Conservatives than I am with George W. Bush

Posted on 05/08/2006 7:04:26 PM PDT by mwfsu84

If I had told you on 9/11/2001 that we'd go four and half years and counting without another terrorist attack on US soil, would you have believed me?

If I had told you that US-led forces would secure Afghanistan in just a few months...something the Soviets couldn't accomplish in ten years...would you have thought I was crazy?

If I had told you that Saddam was gone, that Khadaffy had renounced terrorism, and that Iraq was on the verge of becoming the second democracy in the Middle East, would have thought I was on medication?

Sometimes in our disappointment of this administration, we often forget some of the positives. The economy is strong. More Americans are homeowners. With tax cuts, we're spending less time working for Uncle Sam.

And if you take those benefits for granted, just imagine how much different things would be under a President Al Gore.

So if the president's stance on immigration and spending upset you - and they do upset me - what are you going to do about it? Stay at home? Nothing could be worse for conservativism. Your non-support will usher in more immigrants, higher taxes, and weaker national security.

If the GOP loses Congress, George W. Bush will be removed from office. Nothing would embolden terrorists more. How can we be counted on to wage an effective war when we can't even decide who our enemy is?

George W. Bush isn't the enemy. But that's exactly the message conservatives will send to the world if they stay at home this November.

If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.

I promise you, a Democratic Congress won't be nearly as responsive to your needs.

I loved that bit.

Oh bull crap --- you're pathetic Junior. Facts are facts and just because you don't like President Bush, you think the comparisons are bashing President Reagan. Get over your misreading Tex's post.

I was referring to the previous poll, the one that actually offered the choice of third party or sitting it out, in addition to voting Republican or Democrat.

And, certainly you don't think that every person who has worked to elect Republicans is a FReeper, do you?

No one said that Reagan kinda sucked and that was not the point.

The point was to bring Reagan down a few notches to make Bush look better. But I won't worry any more about it tonight.

Two questions, compare the tax rates at the beginning and end of both Reagans and Bushes terms. Reagans drop HUGELY, Bushs right now are looking like they will expire. Even if they are permanent Reagans overall tax cut and increase are larger than Bushs, and he did it with a democratic opposition in congress.

Reagan left Lebanon after killing a bunch of muslims who attacked us. What was he going to do invade during a civil war? Bush has allowed Bin Laden to live in Pakistan, and is encouraging an invasion of the US on the border.

Bush also said he'd sign the assault weapons ban, thank the republican house for that.

I think discriminating against somebody for being gay is pretty bad, but marriage isn't a right. Bush uses the gay issue to scare evangelicals to the polls, he hasn't made any difference.

We aren't sure about Bushes picks but Reagan had a bad senate. Either way Reagan failed here.

If Bush were half the president Reagan was, I'd piss my pants in happiness. Instead I'm hoping Bush becomes a lame duck early so he doesn't ruin the nation permanently with an invasion of illegals.

No, the point was to make an honest comparison rather than treating Reagan like a god.

The economy and WOT are rino issues as well as Conservative issues. The tax cuts haven't been permanent so they aren't really tax cuts but delayed taxes because with all the wild spending, we'll pay them eventually. Who the hell writes tax cuts that are temporary. It probably wasn't bushs idea but come on.

And on abortion what has been done, Bush still thinks its cool to kill babies as long as mommy claims rape.

And, certainly you don't think a FR poll is representative of the real GOP, do you?

that actually offered the choice of third party or sitting it out

To: Carry_Okie

Well, there is the Republican party with some conservative members and some not so conservative and then there's the evil Marxist liberal socialist Democrat Party. I'd rather have a conservative Republican in office, but I'll take a not so conservative Republican over any evil Marxist liberal socialist Democrat any day of the week. And I might express my unhappiness with some of his policies but I think I've learned my lesson about irreversibly trashing the Republican office holder or the Republican base or the party itself (at least not too much trashing). As they say, the alternative is unthinkable.

So, if we don't post the facts about Reagan, they won't be true?

Thank God you're NOT the majority.

It's funny, but when I look at polls on immigration, I find myself very much in the majority. Cuts across party and class lines, too.

Much of what Reagan did he did it in the first 5 or 6 years. The last part of his 2nd term (about where Bush is today) very little was accomplished...it was the era of "IranGate" and Poindexter. Im not saying he was a bad president. he was very good...but the era Bush is in and where Reagan was at the time...it's not a good argument to be making a comparisan. It wasn't until years later that Reagan was appreciated- after the fall of the USSR and the Reagan economic boom under Clinton...etc. Many of the good things Reagan did was not seen until he was out of office. We dont have time for this with Bush. We need Bush to continue to lead. That's a reason why I dont like to compare Reagan and Bush at this point. We are at war...perhaps WW3...and Iran is about to have nukes. We cannot afford a lame duck President.

I cannot, however, blame the unexcited republicans if they do not go and vote. It will be the leaders of the GOP we have to blame. It is them that need to hear our concerns. The buck does NOT stop at FR nor does it stop at the conservative base. The busk stops at the feet of out leaders.

We must always make sure they know our feelings.

Yes we know bin laden is in Pakistan, and we know hes in the region of that country its own government can't govern. So instead of following his own Bush Doctrine, he lets the dictator of Pakistan pretend to do it for us. I know he means well, but hes got to grow some balls. If we can invade Iraq under no direct threat (Iraq needed to be done, and I still support it fully), we can certainly send special ops troops into the mountain region of Pakistan under direct threat for Bin Laden.

Oh bull crap --- you're pathetic Junior.

Love and kisses to you too.

Facts are facts and just because you don't like President Bush, you think the comparisons are bashing President Reagan.

The post belittles Reagan and implies that the only thing he had going for him was his ability to communicate. Don't pretend otherwise----the intent of the post is obvious. Bush can be defended on his merits without having to resort to that.

If people are going to insist on comparing President Bush to President Reagan, then it is necessary.

Yeah. That's right. Let's drink nuclear waste for two years. That water will taste good, if we ever get to taste it again.

thanks, sink - I was trying to put it in words without many really not nice words that kept creeping in - these surface-thinkers scare me
