If I had told you on 9/11/2001 that we'd go four and half years and counting without another terrorist attack on US soil, would you have believed me?
If I had told you that US-led forces would secure Afghanistan in just a few months...something the Soviets couldn't accomplish in ten years...would you have thought I was crazy?
If I had told you that Saddam was gone, that Khadaffy had renounced terrorism, and that Iraq was on the verge of becoming the second democracy in the Middle East, would have thought I was on medication?
Sometimes in our disappointment of this administration, we often forget some of the positives. The economy is strong. More Americans are homeowners. With tax cuts, we're spending less time working for Uncle Sam.
And if you take those benefits for granted, just imagine how much different things would be under a President Al Gore.
So if the president's stance on immigration and spending upset you - and they do upset me - what are you going to do about it? Stay at home? Nothing could be worse for conservativism. Your non-support will usher in more immigrants, higher taxes, and weaker national security.
If the GOP loses Congress, George W. Bush will be removed from office. Nothing would embolden terrorists more. How can we be counted on to wage an effective war when we can't even decide who our enemy is?
George W. Bush isn't the enemy. But that's exactly the message conservatives will send to the world if they stay at home this November.
If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.
I promise you, a Democratic Congress won't be nearly as responsive to your needs.
But do you have the votes? Do you really have enough "pure" conservatives out there who are just waiting for their knight to appear? Last year Bush tried to reform social security, but the public said, NO. There are too many middle-class conservatives who have planned their retirement on a government pension. There are too many "conservatives" who want their own bridge to nowhere. There are too many who grumble about the tax code but don't want their favoite loophole closed. So, do you have the votes?
I better be on that list at least twice, I worked hard to get on it.
It's certainly possible to do both. In fact, the threat of a third party defection can provide an incentive to choose conservatives in the primaries.
"It's all about the Mexicans!!!"
LOL. Not me. It is all about big arrogant government (at all levels).
You don't even see the irony in your post.
So refusing to abandon one's conscience, ethos, and integrity is now on a par with 'supporting Democrats'?
Put me on your little list too. It would bring me the utmost pleasure to be segregated from Republican kowtowers.
"If I could not go to Heaven but with a party,
I would not go there at all"
Logic has no place in this debate.
Well said...and thanks for posting that....
Says a noob who's been here all of four days.
Talk about kids. You're still in diapers.
I smell somethin'.
The point of this post is, as disappointed as you are with Bush, it could get a lot worse with the party of Howard Dean.
In the last year, we've had Dick Durbin compare our soldier in Gtmo to Nazis. We've had an entire glee club that chattters joyfully every time something goes wrong in Iraq. Now we'll allow these people to control a major branch of our government.
No Republican president has ever governed strictly by Republican principles. Ronald Reagan in his last term RASIED taxes. Know why? Because a Democratic House forced him to.
Really? If all the jobs were being "sucked to Mexico" how come all the Mexicans are coming here to work?
Ross Perot followers are the natural audience for Infomercials.
That said, how you vote and you poll (etc) are different things. By admitting that you will always support R no matter what they do, you give no incentive for them to change course. Put their feet to the fire, make them afraid of losing your vote. Otherwise, if they think everything is safe within their traditional strongholds, their policies will branch out towards the mushy populist middle to "widen the margin". If there is no doubt that they will retain your support, this always happens. Scare the Republicans in the polls, but don't vote the dems into office (by staying home or otherwise).
Or just settle for the same old.
They sure are bold lately.
LOL!
RINO DeWine just got 74% of the vote against a good conservative challenger in the Ohio Republican senatorial primary.
Had enough?
Enough of prosperity, security and tax cuts?
Or what?
or, in some cases, it could lock up support for the other guys....
I'm talking close races here, not your basic Senate Race, like say, Ohio, where I'm sure Mike DeWhiner will open up to a 10% win when it's all said and done...
60% is better than 0% although 100% is the goal.
It would help if virtual nobodies wouldn't be the primary contenders against the types like Mike DeWhiner....
