I'm more upset with Conservatives than I am with George W. Bush
Posted on 05/08/2006 7:04:26 PM PDT by mwfsu84
If I had told you on 9/11/2001 that we'd go four and half years and counting without another terrorist attack on US soil, would you have believed me?
If I had told you that US-led forces would secure Afghanistan in just a few months...something the Soviets couldn't accomplish in ten years...would you have thought I was crazy?
If I had told you that Saddam was gone, that Khadaffy had renounced terrorism, and that Iraq was on the verge of becoming the second democracy in the Middle East, would have thought I was on medication?
Sometimes in our disappointment of this administration, we often forget some of the positives. The economy is strong. More Americans are homeowners. With tax cuts, we're spending less time working for Uncle Sam.
And if you take those benefits for granted, just imagine how much different things would be under a President Al Gore.
So if the president's stance on immigration and spending upset you - and they do upset me - what are you going to do about it? Stay at home? Nothing could be worse for conservativism. Your non-support will usher in more immigrants, higher taxes, and weaker national security.
If the GOP loses Congress, George W. Bush will be removed from office. Nothing would embolden terrorists more. How can we be counted on to wage an effective war when we can't even decide who our enemy is?
George W. Bush isn't the enemy. But that's exactly the message conservatives will send to the world if they stay at home this November.
If you're upset with W. on immigration - write him, write a Republican Congressman, let him know how you feel. It was conservatives who got Bush to change his mind on Harriet Meirs.
I promise you, a Democratic Congress won't be nearly as responsive to your needs.

Wow. Good thing you're patient.
I think many Americans would be uncomfortable with a wall, but supportive of a fence. Or at least a virtual fence with in many ways would be more secure than a traditional fence.
In any case, you are absolutely right that it is a serious issue...but also a complex one. I used to think I knew exactly what we should do, but the more I study the issue, the more I realize that it is incredibly difficult to tackle and that there are no easy answers.
Human beings tend to do what they want to do, despite everything. We are a fairly tenacious bunch. That makes things like this much harder to solve.

Hey Spiff, I think I saw you in a movie a few years ago. You're looking as intelligent as you did in the movie. Get a new agent.

But what makes me sit up and wonder what the heck is going on is when a majority of this forum appear to want the President's head on a platter over one issue. It is not a majority of this forum; it is just that, as usual, in times like these when the malcontents have whipped up an issue, rather than repeatedly getting their heads bashed in and called everything up to and including un-American, most Freepers and/or lurkers retreat into the shadows.
They'll be back.

So you are saying that Republicans HAVE been responsive to our needs? The joke on us is that we operate under the illusion that we actually do have a two party system.
The last time we actually had a two party system was very briefly during the Reagan administration and even he was gotten to on the illegal issue, with his "One time Amnesty".
Before his administration and sense then both parties are herding us in the same direction, just like cattle. To not see that clearly by now is to be blindly with the program. Let's list how much worse we have been off since the Republicans took charge of D.C.
Bush destroyed Clinton's bill regrading immgrant support by a sponser and placed the responsibility for immigrants back off their sponsors and placed the responsibility for their care and feeding right back on the taxpayers back.
Bush's first trip out of the country was to Mexico to meet with Vicente Fox, and in their discussions at the Crawford ranch laying agreements to melt the USofA, Mexico, and Canada into one border-less trade zone, which they both openly discussed in Monterey Mexico and Canada. V. Fox in Monterey and Bush in Canada.
The only thing I have seen Bush threaten to VETO is the ability of vets to receive both retirement and disability benefits simultaneously, and any Illegal Immigration bill that doesn't include amnesty.
Then there is the "Farm Bill" a boon for corporate farming, the Education Bill, more good money thrown after bad, promoting of the FTAA treaty, the Trans Mexico corridor, the much abused Patriot Act, his U-turn from chasing Ben Laden to crushing Saddam. His devastating "Road to Peace Plan" that is a loaded gun to the head of Israel.
I'm sure many other could add to this list.
He has dug a pit for us and in busy pushing us in it aided and abetted by a liberal congress and Senate. There is no way they can be worse than democrats because they are democrats in sheep's clothing. To cling to the illusion that we actually have a two party system in this country is pitiful self delusion. They are both herding us in the same direction the pit.
Have you attempted to get through to any government agency lately? Give it a try, after a mile long list of approved options if your query or question has nothing to do with their approved list you are referred to the operator, when you press zero for the operator you are told the person you are attempting to contact isn't available.
Government agencies have cut themselves off from all forms of contact or protest from the average citizen. Many of your representatives have recordings that tell you right up front they are not accepting call, emails, or faxes.
This is no longer, and hasn't been for some time a representative government. The people have had every avenue cut off for redress of grievances, even the ability to starve D.C. out by refusing to pay taxes to keep the beast going.
So you can stuff your resentment of conservatives where the sun don't shine. Your politicians have earned their reputations. Now they can suffer for them in November. Not that they care.
