Democrats to Nominate Kennedy for Re-Election (... and the Saga of "Patches" Continues...!)
ABC6.News ^ | 05/08/2006 | AP

Rhode Island Democrats are expected to endorse Representative Patrick Kennedy for re-election when they meet tonight in West Warwick.

Party members will endorse candidates for Congress and the state's top jobs -- governor, secretary of state, general treasurer and attorney general.

Kennedy has checked himself into the Mayo Clinic for treatment for addiction to prescription drugs following a Thursday car accident in Washington. He says he can't remember driving to Capitol Hill or crashing his car.

Kennedy's doctors say he was taking Phenergan for stomach and intestinal problems and Ambien, a commonly prescribed sleeping medication. Police say he appeared intoxicated.

When he use to shoot up drugs he would always have patches on his arm to hide the track marks.. I don`t know, why you asking me? bwa ha ha! Maybe it`s the police aspect, they always have to patch up the image of the Kennedys from fear of being fired from the top down. For example Ted Kennedy as usual tells a police Captain "I`ll have your badge" when they find Ted crashed into a telephone pole, and the Captain tells his underlings "Go soft on this guy".

Remember Mayor Marion Barry?
I compare it to the renomination of Robert Torricelli by the Democratic Party of New Jersey. The Democratic Party knew, or should have known, that their incumbent was unfit for office - but he was their incumbent, and nothing else mattered to them.

No Kennedy should be allowed to drive, much less vote in Congress much less vote. And they prove it time and time again, but try telling that to the absolute psychopaths who keep voting for this cult of pond scum. They think everyone and anyone even remotely related to a Kennedy is some kind of Royalty when they are nothing more than the dog snot.

Maybe in his drug induced haze he will claim his daddy molested him as a child to garner media sympathy.

Nope...he would claim it was his mother.

Ambien is a SLEEPING PILL!!! Only a person with true addiction problems would take it before driving. I have some left over from a recent hospital stay, and they put you to sleep.

Maybe one of these nights I'll take one and start a "How long does it take MarineBrat to fall asleep after taking ambien" thread.

he should step down and get his life in order

For his own health, he should. A few weeks in a treatment center is not going to do anything beyond giving him a temporary break from abusing drugs.

No matter how much therapy he gets, the next day when he weakes up he will still be a Kennedy. I'm not sure that he can get his life in order. Genetics are a factor in this.

Don't lose faith yet, it is way too early for that. The potential candidates for the Repub. party that we were being shown in 98, had no resemblance to the ones that actually ran in 2000. I suspect we are not seeing those who will run in 08 yet either. Will probably be someone we haven't heard in the media yet.

It isn't too early for them to start rallying and getting more conservatives IN in 06, and Rino's out however.

"NO WAY, now that he has admitted to suffering from the disorder, he should be allowed to hold office."

It is quite widely believed Abraham Lincoln was bipolar. Perhaps Winston Churchill, too.

"A few weeks in a treatment center is not going to do anything beyond giving him a temporary break from abusing drugs."

It has given Rush Limbaugh 2 - 3 years of being off drugs.

"Drinking or taking any meds that aren't Lithium or other such, is very very dangerous for someone with an existing chemical imbalance, which is what Bipolar is."

I guess he's been to treatment for drugs, before. They SHOULD have taught him that all mind-altering drugs and alcohol were a big NO NO.

Yet it is typical for addicts to adopt an attitude of "My problem is drugs. I'm not one of those alcoholics. I can drink okay."

So back to treatment he goes. Rush got it the first time. Maybe Patrick will get it this time.

DO you think he's going to stay in the Mayo until this is resolved, or just long enough to satisfy critical members of the liberal MSM? Hency, my belief he'll skip up the 12 steps at astonishing speed. I do hope I am wrong.

"It sounds like he is into all sorts of self-destructive behavior. I don't know what all meds he was taking, but the booze was surely not helping the depression...and taking drugs with alcohol...not good at all."

Alcohol is a depressent. It works. Alcoholics often complain of their depression. Often they get doctors to prescribe anti-depressants.

The alcoholic's mind is screwed up. He lies to the doctor, because he lies to himself and to everybody else.

And the cycle continues, until it stops.

The Recovery thing is partly an "industry." Hospitals and clinics usually have a 28-30 day inpatient program, for which they get big $.

These programs give an initial physical detox and then isolate the user from the substance(s) for the duration of the stay.

If the person wants to stay clean and sober, they could do it without the hospital bills.

Meetings and Steps.

Actually, Ted Kennedy committed manslaughter, not murder.

There's no way to know whether it was manslaughter or muder. He may have fully intended to kill her. Since he made darned sure the investigation wasn't begun for many hours, perhaps the scene was sanitized.

I agree with your assessment. Patches was first introduced to the 12 Steps as a teenager. Twenty years later, and the first one still hasn't taken hold. Putting on a new pair of glasses is nearly impossible for a Kennedy.

I wish recovery would take hold too. I really do. Unfortunately, I believe Patches will be discharged within a week. If one places anything ahead of their recovery, they won't recover, and this Kennedy is unwilling to let go of his position of power.

There is One who has the power to heal him. That One is God, may he find Him now.

The old rule of dead girls and live boys, don't apply to Kennedy's and Democrats.
