Democrats to Nominate Kennedy for Re-Election (... and the Saga of "Patches" Continues...!)
ABC6.News ^ | 05/08/2006 | AP

Rhode Island Democrats are expected to endorse Representative Patrick Kennedy for re-election when they meet tonight in West Warwick.

Party members will endorse candidates for Congress and the state's top jobs -- governor, secretary of state, general treasurer and attorney general.

Kennedy has checked himself into the Mayo Clinic for treatment for addiction to prescription drugs following a Thursday car accident in Washington. He says he can't remember driving to Capitol Hill or crashing his car.

Kennedy's doctors say he was taking Phenergan for stomach and intestinal problems and Ambien, a commonly prescribed sleeping medication. Police say he appeared intoxicated.

Hey folks in Rhode Island, thanks. Being from Florida and all the crap we've had to go through in politics the last many years I for one appreciate you guys taking the lead in stupid politics. At least for a while.

A Republic can also be called "deliberative government". It's difficult to see how such a system can be maintained when its representatives, by their own admission, have problems deliberating.

unless he's built up tolerance.

That would not surprise me at all. He should thank his lucky stars he got busted. When you start abusing that sort of stuff you don't tend to live long...if you are lucky.

but we do have word he is on Step 3 and making great strides

Step 3? He doesn't have the foggiest idea about Step 1 yet. (Do the words 'powerless' and 'unmanageable' ring a bell, Mr. Kennedy?)

How did Patches Kennedy get the nickname "Patches?"

I've always assumed it was in sarcastic reference to the classic Clarence Carter song of the same name, which included the choral refrain:

He said, "Patches,

I'm dependin' on you, son,

To pull the family through;

My son, it's all left up to you."

Don't quote me on that, however. :)

From the song? Here's a link that supposedly answers it.

Indeed. I wonder what the flipping hell they were thinking in electing that fool.

Patches Kennedy is just about the most idiotic member of Congress, and that title does take some doing to achieve it.

Thanks for the info, guys! Living out here in Arizona, I had pretty much forgotten that Patches was in Congress. I remember when he was first elected, but hadn't heard anything from him until this latest incident.

What, if anything, has Patches done for the people of Rhode Island these past 12 years?

Ambien, my ass!

This guy is a lying POS and the MSM buried the incident that happened two weeks prior. I guess we'll just have to wait until he kills someone like Teddy or maims someone for life like Joe, Hugo Chavez's partner.

He's a drunk, plain and simple and shouldn't be allowed to drive, much less vote in Congress.

Hey I'm not surprised in the least. This is typical RAT behavior. RATS feel they should be able to do whatever they want to do. Heck ,if they found this guy shooting heroin in his car, they'd probably want to throw him a parade! How many here doubt they would reelect the rapist Clintoon if they could? And didn't they reelect that other clown Marion Barry who was caught on tape doing crack?! This is the RATS way of putting in in your face.Good going RATS! Youv'e got another winner there!

This country is like a loaf of bread. I say a loaf of bread because I like bread without the end crust, so let`s get moving! Cut the east coast and west into the sea.
