"Mission: Impossible 3" had a tough weekend: The total take, according to boxofficemojo.com, came to $48 million. And this was a wide, wide release: More than 4,000 theaters unreeled Tom Cruise and company’s latest adventure if you wanted to see it. The problem, it seems, is that a lot of people didn’t.

How to measure the "M:I:3" opening weekend? Last year, "War of the Worlds," Cruise’s last movie, earned $64.8 million on its opening. The number of theaters was comparable...."

Being a big weirdo in public is bad for the career, or so it appears. I wonder if the Scientology folks have something on Tom Cruise.

No doubt about it. I have such an adverse reaction to this nutcase that I don't even watch reruns of movies that he is in that I liked. He's just too off putting.

The real "Mission Impossible" will be reviving Cruise's career now that he's advertised what a complete and utter kook he is.

Jack Bauer and 24 is a better deal.

Plus, look what it was going up against. No other big films opened over the weekend.

I wouldn't go to see it, even at gunpoint.

What did they expect? The first one sucked, and the second completely sucked. Did they really think there'd be a market for the third??

I saw it....theatre was packed. No seats left. It was very good.
I also say Flight 93 ...there were 10 people. Movie also was good in my opinion...it will bring tears to your eyes...and make you feel like you are right in that airplane.

I'm surprised it did 48 million. Are there that many Scientologists around?

Me too. I used to think he was a great actor (Top Gun, A few good men and Jerry McGuire), but then he made that stupid eye wide open (in my case, eye closed shut)...anyway, for awhile now, he has just become so strange that it is difficult to even watch him anywhere. I usually give actors a pass on their weirdness, but this guy has gone too far (especially picking on Brooke!!!!! Like he can tell her how to care for herself). Then the whole Katie situation pisses me off because she is so weak to see that he will ruin her life, but at 27/8 what can we say. Anyway, he is totally off my list of movies to see him in probably forever unless he has some major change of behavior.

Mission Impossible 2 was widely panned. It wasn't a flop in that it made money, but it had no staying power and wasn't a blockbuster. That should have warned them right then not to make another sequel.

Couple that with your leading "man" acting like a complete lunatic off-screen, and I'm surprised they're even going to make their money back.

I agree. You look at him on the screen, and all the while you are thinking about the off-screen wierdness. It's just distracting.

I'm getting to the point where I just prefer actors whom I don't know. Half the "stars" are just terrible, anyway. And the other half have too much baggage. There are plenty of good "no-names" out there.
