The Orlando, FL PD are taser happy. I know these guys have a tough gig but tasing everyone in sight, helping folks commit suicide by police, and selectively filing reports, is not my idea of professionalism.
People with diabetes often seem intoxicated. If you have never seen it before you would never know.
The first time I saw it a veteran officer locked up a guy who was having problems with his diabetes. The guy seemed extremely drunk. Here he just had low blood sugar.
He was in our holding cell for about an hour and we all thought he was smashed.
The last time I had one it was a guy who had problems, lost control of his pick up truck and hit a telephone pole. He seemed intoxicated.
From that one experience I figured he may be diabetic and called rescue. Sure enough.
Another REAL problem is police departments wanting cops to taser first, ask questions later.
Oh well.
Oh, and if they are having problems with their blood sugar, they will be argumentive and even combative. It is difficult to tell. Cops are generally not taught about this, at least I never was, I had to learn it through experience.
I just remembered about a month ago a barbershop owner was down on the floor, low blood sugar. I waited till rescue got there. He started fighting with the rescue squad and I had to hold him down until they gave him treatment. He was back on his feet in a few minutes.
While she should have been sure her blood sugar was o.k. to drive, the taser thing is way out of line. Stupid cop.
She should have been wearing a diabetic medical bracelet. If not, the officers should have looked in her wallet where should should have diabetic information. Nonetheless, she should not have been tasered.
Yeah, the bastards always "smell alcohol" or say "they were acting suspicious". I used to admire the police when I was in my teen years, similar to how I admire the millitary now. As I got older and started driving they harassed me on a daily basis for no legal reason.
There was one stretch where I was pulled over 13 times in 15 days, and I never violated the law. living in a small town with bad police sux. I hear of these type things everywhere though. I've just come to realize that 99.9% of them are pathetic, small minded losers who couldn't quite make it at anything else in life so they have settled for making everyone else's life miserable.
Don't give me the argument of "who will I call when I need help". When a perp invades your home, it's your job to take care of it. The only thing the police are good for in such a situation is showing up after the fact to clean up the mess and take pictures. They also may charge you with a crime for defended yourself and your family if you don't have lots of money, or if they just don't like you for whatever reason.
Methinks, 'odor/smell of alcohol' is some kind of code word.
"I produced my X-26 Taser and told her that if she did not comply with my order to unlock her door that I was going to use my Taser on her," Gorman wrote in his report. "She looked away from me without responding and stared straight ahead. I shouted the Taser warning and deployed my Taser from a distance of five feet. The female reacted by screaming and stiffening her body."

He was completely out of line. Sending 50,000 volts through someone in order to punish them for non-compliance in a minor traffic accident should not be standard procedure. He should be fired and the city should quietly settle with her.
