I think your article is right on the money. If the DemocRATs are smart, they will sit back and do nothing about the immigration issue. The GOP base is imploding because of this issue. The DemocRATS' latest bit of rhetoric about America needing even MORE illegal immigrants to pay the Social Security benefits for the upcoming boomer baby retirements was a stroke of brilliance. Judging from what I'm hearing from callers to talk radio, a lot of the "slower" listeners have bought into that.

Great article. You nailed it exactly right. The GOP better get their act together and start massive raids with deportation, and put employers who hire illegals in jail with heavy fines, or they will ALL lose their seats in the next election!! IF they are so stupid to grant amnesty under ANY name they want to call it, they are going to lose their seats anyway because the illegals have been told that Bush and the GOP are evil, and signed up to vote DemonRAT. They will NEVER support Republicans and those who believe they will are kidding themselves!!

I find this line particularly interesting.

For years, Democrats have screamed that Republicans are too extreme. With immigration reform, they can claim validation with a House bill that effectively would make 12 million illegals felons.

Now if the House and Senate would pass the bill, and the President sign it, the issue would flare, and die, as the conservative base was energized. The Dems wouldn't have to the make the stupid move they are quite likely to make anyway.

Second, they must stay far away from becoming extreme. Republicans have to be careful because they do have a knack of overplaying their hand -- remember the whole shut-down-the-government moment in 1996?

I remember it well, the one where Monica brought the pizza in for the 'toon. The "government shutdown", that was no such thing. Essential services, such as the military were not much impacted.

However with their allies in the MSM, the Dems were able to spin it as "Newt's fault", when it was arguably just as much Clinton's fault, and that of the Democrat controlled Senate. Not that having the government not spending money for few days was all much of a thing for "blame".

The party that offers reasonable solutions, with border security at the forefront, will end up being the one giving the wedgie.

And, this is the polite explanation.

Salena -- Very nice article!

Lady, you have a distinct gift...please keep up the great writing...

"The immigrants who entered our country 100 years ago were just as poor, just as unskilled and just as motivated for a better life as our southern-border migrants.

But the glaring difference is that the first wave came to be part of this country. After their little May Day march, you get the feeling the new immigrants are coming to take over the country.

Americans should remember that, although we are the land of opportunity, those opportunities -- especially economic rewards -- come with sacrifice, not entitlement"
