Been nice knowin' ya, America

By Dimitri Vassilaros TRIBUNE-REVIEW Sunday, May 7, 2006

Will the next generation of U.S. citizens consider themselves Americans or post-Americans? Better still, why wouldn't they consider themselves post-Americans? Considering how quickly this republic is unraveling, is it too late to ask rhetorical questions?

"But we have been closer to socialism"

When? When have we ever in the past given entitlements to illegal immigrants? When have we been at a cross roads (as we are now) where soon the minority will be paying all the taxes and a majority will be getting handouts? When has vote buying via entitlements, tax loopholes and the number of lobbyist on K street been this high?

The social welfare program (boondoggle) is 40 years old and that is the true beginning of the end.

You know, my friend, you are right on, but you have legions of people on this very site, proclaiming their intent not to vote this cycle. If we were united as a nation, backing the POTUS on his war efforts, this war would have been over with the USA being the undisputed victor. But, the Democrat political party and the mainstream media has chosen to aid and abet our enemy which has caused both USA and Iraqi military and civilian deaths and injuries far beyond what was needed. If we split as conservatives and Republicans, the Democrats walk in, and you can kiss the country goodbye, and you and your family with it. If we stand strong, and an Iraq emerges as a somewhat "secular" country, that alone will put great pressure on the majority of the Iranian people to get rid of the nutso Muslim leadership that now runs the country. Most Iranians really like and respect America and want to be free to choose their own destiny. Taking that into account without detailing further, a strong, united, free Iraq will change the face of the Middle East, including Iran without a shot being fired. For this reason I proclaim the current Democrat Party and their lackey MSM nothing but a bunch of traitors, guilty of treason to these United States of America. How any American that loves America can ever consider voting for a Democrat is beyond me, but they will. So, if we sit on our hands, we are only dooming ourselves. The Democrats are in serious denial, and will willing walk into a nuclear blitz or into a sharp beheading instrument. Make your choice!!! and...get your lazy butts into gear, and go out and see "United 93". It lays the skinny out as clearly as one can!!!

Actually, the Irish who came over from the 1840s to the 1870s (by the 1890s, more were coming from Eastern Europe than from Ireland) were VERY violent, dominated the prisons in the NE, with the women often resorting to prostitution. They were notorious for their hostility to "native" Americans, and often assaulted those who passed through the Five Points or East Boston.

Of course, once the Irish gained political power, they proceeded to discriminate against every other ethnic group, whether Anglo, black, Italian, Jewish, etc.

WHat the Mexicans need is an Archbishop "Dagger John" Hughes (google that name to see what I'm talking about). On our end, we simply need to crack down on employers who hire illegals and build a wall.

"American has a nicer ring to it that Usaian. Don't you think?"

Yes indeed. It's hard to come up with something that has the same international recognition. We are a country without a proper name, unlike Mexico, and Canada, both of which its populations can be called "(North) Americans" as well.

I agree.

Republics demand responsibility and morality by the elected officials and by We the People.....sadly, the more the government hands out 'entitlements' the more apathetic the people become and both fall off the course of their required responsibilities.

OK, here is a different opinion! This is a great time to be an American. To be proud of the "Americanization" of Irag. To be proud of the "Americanization of ALL of North America. The opportunities that will emerge for wealth building in North American in the next ten years is mind "bogling". Freepers, you may have to move to take advantage of these opportunities. Good luck and God speed!

There was discrimination against the Irish (my ancestors were among them) and other nationalities.

The basic difference is that the Irish and others immigrating to the U.S. wanted to become Americans ... a part of the melting pot. They were willing to accept the U.S. on its terms, not try to make the U.S. "New Ireland."

Today, the melting pot has been replaced by the worship diversity.

Good perspective. Here is an interesting part:

"Post-Americanism is the state of having moved beyond loyalty to the U.S.," according to Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies. Mr. Krikorian believes he coined "post-American."

"Somebody for whom the interests of the U.S. are not paramount and no longer feels greater loyalty to his fellow Americans. They have become cosmopolitans," he says.

Americanism started with Lincoln and ends with Bush, or maybe his successor.

"Oh but I forgot, those evil American farmers who grow food and have evil people with Spanish surnames hired to help pick and process that food, are the demise of America as we know it, nevermind."

Are you a farmer who hires illegal aliens? If so that would certainly explain your posts. You seem very defensive about this issue of illegal immigration.

If the Bush Amnesty plan (let's not even talk about the McCain/Kennedy plan) goes through, we will have an invasion force of 30-40 MILLION, all of which hold loyalty NOT to the USA, her laws, language, culture morals, NOTHING. THAT will be the end of America.

But the nation will be destroyed "compassionately"...

JMO, I wouldn't doubt that there were some trying to do that(i.e make America into "New Ireland").

But back then you didn't have the propaganda tools(i.e MSM, internet) to get a political message through with lightning speed.

JMO, the vast majority of immigrants(legal and illegal) just wish to make a life and do what is best for their family, but that gets overshadowed by those on the left and right who use al gore's "invention" the Internet to push their agenda and inflame passions and rhetoric.

America for all it's time has survived massive waves of immigration and those waves have made the nation stronger, IMO.

Let's see, the average American knows more about American Idol than the Constitution or the separation of powers.

Compliments of Horace Mann and your local teacher's union.

The elites in Washington, D.C., New York City and the United Nations seem to have plotted a journey to lead America into the New World Order where a cosmopolitan global citizen is no more connected to his country than a sociopath to his fellow man.

Don't leave out all the talking heads and the MSM with their purple propaganda.

Actually I am not a farmer, nor am I one who condemns them, as some do on FR, for hiring in their words IMO, impure help, to get tomatoes, chickens, or beef and all other food onto America's tables.

Did I spell "tomatoes" wrong.

Am I to be pilloried as the next Dan Quayle on FR?

Yup, and the saddest part is that we were warned..

"With respect to the words general welfare, I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators." James Madison

I can't believe a main stream newspaper printed this story. This is a very important thing for people to know.
