Will the next generation of U.S. citizens consider themselves Americans or post-Americans? Better still, why wouldn't they consider themselves post-Americans? Considering how quickly this republic is unraveling, is it too late to ask rhetorical questions?

Except you would call them NORTH Americans, just as you would call South Americans--SOUTH AMERICANS.
Only one group of people in this world is called Americans and when you say "American" it is instantly associated with the USA. In fact, US is just a title for a Union of states, America is our name and we're the only country with America in our name.
Thus, we are the only Americans. I remember that nitwittery about other "americans" in college when learning Spanish. Nooooooo, there is only one American.
You are correct. It seems to me we are being deliberately weakened both economically and militarily. What I don't understand is those who refuse to even consider it can happen to our country.
History clearly points out it can and the fall of the big ones always seems to come from within over a good period of time yet is still a surprise when it happens.
The Soviet Union, Great Britain, Spain, France,Rome, the Greeks etc, all had their shot and failed.
We are already in the early stages of decline on the world scene as we daily lose our respect and ability to influence anyone,because of our inability to bring to a successful conclusion any military action since World War II.
I think this sortie into Iraq is the last time we will ever venture forward on our own with out the blessings of the Europeans.
We depend on other nations for everything we need to survive except our food and military security and both of those are fast being brought into question.
The problem is the rest of the world now sees the decline in their dependence on us and our ever increasing dependence on them and are starting to react accordingly.
I know I don't, but the CFR plan calls for it and bush has had at least 2 summit meetings with the other two leaders about the North American approach to security. These plans give an appointed agency lots of authority over immigration issues.
And, this is the polite explanation.

I've got two daughters, and may soon have two more by adoption (they happen to be "brown", which characteristic along with their beautiful hair, they get from their grandafather, who was once married to my sister in law). I look forward to lots of grandkids, although I might not survive to see the ones from the little girls grow up, since I'll be 68 when the younger one graduates from high school. But my Dad didn't survive to see two of his four grandchildren grow up, and saw only one of their weddings and no great grandchildren, so it wouldn't be the end of their world, even though losing grandpa when you are little is kinda tough.

Yes they were, for different reasons. Ireland was still under England's thumb, and held down tighter than some of the other colonies, because of their proimitry and length of time since they'd been conquered, and because they, like the Italians and Mexcians, were Catholic.
Italy was culturally backward. Even today they have trouble holding a government together, (Which can be a "Good Thing", if one compares the current sitatuion to that during Mussolini's time). Criminals gangs ran rampant, especially in the south, many of those gangster "families" established themselves in the US.
The big, and most crucial difference is that the Mexicans are here illegally, while, for the most part, the others were legal immigrants, processed in by our Government, which sent many home as "undesirable", either criminal or sickly (at a time when the causes of disease were not as well understood, and cures almost nonexistent).

A nation and an idea thought not worth defending will, well, not be defended. If I am not mistaken, either Edward Gibbon or Will Durant stated that all civilizations are born Stoic and die Epicurean. We are certainly well beyond the Stoic stage where Oprah, trivialities, pop culture have replaced pride and knowledge of our once great republic.
At the end, there were too few Romans who cared.

imho, the evidence seems to support your perspective more than it supports the other perspectives.
I don't know the number of years until WWIII. Was concerned it would start this year. Then it seemed (and still mostly does) that the Russians etc. were waffling about getting tough with Iran.
And, I think China would prefer to build up their military more as well as wait until after the 2008 Olympics.
Certainly the puppet masters have their somewhat flexible schedule. Satan has his. And God is the final say--and He responds to earnest prayer and fasting regarding most things.
But I'm absolutely certain that the attack on the USA will come.
There have begun to surface isolated reports of something awesomely horrible in 2012. I'm not talking about the end of the Mayan calendar. Sounds like something the puppet masters either have scheduled or are aware of looming.
Some have postulated a huge comet or meteor striking earth. Some have speculated WWIII. But none of those who know will even say--much less go on record--as disclosing even the type of event beyond "You do NOT want to know."
I believe Washington's dream was authentic. I believe America will be disciplined for the millions of infanticides and other evils we have willfully engaged in and tolerated. But I do not believe we will be utterly destroyed. I think God and His 'angel armies' will pull our rear out of the fire in a cliff-hanger finale--probably near the time of the 2nd Coming, if not at the same time.
I think God must make an object lesson of the USA as well as Western culture along with all the other human evils of all the other cultures. He must show that any culture doing things apart from Him becomes deadly and destructive--even an 'ideal' one of the people, for the people and by the people.
But, we have done many Christian wonderful things at home and around the world rather selflessly and sacrificially. It is not like God to let such go unrewarded. Some of our reward we have already received in His delays in disciplining us for our willful deification of pleasure, rebellion, the flesh, idolatry, etc. But I believe that He will show us additional mercies in the midst of the traumatic disciplines.
But those regions and groups of the USA which have been willfully given over to evil will suffer fairly thorough going devastations. But this will be true the world over. It's simply that this time, the USA will not escape it's share.
I would not be surprised if the whole surface of the globe was redone by God's Spirit and 'angel armies.' Others believe that property rights will endure and survive through the Great Tribulation into the Millenium afterward. We shall see. Certainly the old order of things will be no more.
Many, many folks have had dreams and visions of many nuclear bombs going off all over the USA. Others have had visions of famine. Others of Russian, Chinese etc. troops in control of the East and West coasts and somewhat between there and the MidWest.
Times are a changin' . . . Mocking and scoffing at such notions may be popular now. But I'm 100% certain that the mocking and scoffing will come to a horrible screeching halt sooner than any of us would prefer.

Very well put, imho.
I once thought similarly.
But, the Biblical record indicates that some form of the traumatic Great Tribulation will engulf the whole world.
I suppose it could be somewhat minimized to a certain degree by the Christians still here REALLY acting like Christians and fasting and praying a LOT more. But even at it's best--as the record-in-advance indicates--it will be worse than has ever been and worse than ever will be again in all of eternity.
I don't think any ad hoc committees will alter that 1%.
But we can prepare ourselves, our families, our hearts, our spirits. We can walk close to God and be sensitive and obedient to His guidance and protection and provision. What He did for the Children of Israel during the 40 years in the wilderness will have some parallels for believers during these trying times . . . water out of rocks . . . clothes that don't wear out . . . no sickness . . . a table spread before us in the presence of our enemies etc.
