"You have to admit, Coulter's line about converting them all to Christianity is more memorable than anything he's written. And (truth be told) more on the mark than almost anything written by anyone else, since."
That comment probably was what got Anne fired by Girly Boy.
He is probably still waiting at home to be called to the White House to share his wisdom with President Bush. He will still be waiting.
Been a conservative since Ike, seen two Bush Presidencies,
This second term of W is a nightmare, and it's all Bush's doing.
In January 2005, everything Bush has done is for the benefit of the Rockafeller wing of the GOP. He totally turned his back on the social conservatives who re-elected him.
When this capitalist wing controlled the GOP, it was in the early 1970's, and they had 130 seats in the House and 35 in the Senate.
And that is right where we just might be if Bush doesn't turn right hard and fast.
I shudder at the thought of 2009 being the absolute minority with McCain as the spokesman for the GOP.
Sounds to me like you're looking forward to it.
Why should I play nice when people on this forum are practically orgasmic about the Democrats being in charge?
Knock it off
Bush is stuck in mid-30% range. That needs to improve, or else the GOP will suffer losses this November. Maybe even a loss of one chamber of Congress, or both. That`s what happens when you govern domestically like a liberal and ignore your conservative base.
Damn, that may have been a SLIGHT defense of pre-1967 democrats.
Don't think I like, trust, or admire any of them in the least. I can't really think of anything, other than JFK's tax cut, that is at all defensible.
I supported GWB because after the stink of the Clinton years this country desperately needed a good and decent man in the White House, regardless of his political orientation. Bush was that man; and though he has been conservative enough in some regards, in others he has been sadly lacking. I'll vote for him again if it's a choice between him and a liberal Democrat, and don't try to tell me there's no difference between the two.
The GOP since Bush's re-election have sided with the Rockafeller wing of the GOP, turning their backs on the social conservatives.
After you read this, think about it when you read what the GOP Congress and White House are doing. It explains all their actions, you'll see.
The problem with Bush is every straw that comes along breaks his back.
The Republicans have a lousy press team, and just can't seem to find the `nads' to strike back and put the RATS into a defensive position.
Always being on the defensive is NOT good, and he has used up all his shut up and ignore them cards long ago.
While Reagan looks like the perfect President through the soft lens of history ... I suspect if there had been a Free Republic back then, we'd be having these same arguments about him.
Spending too much, retreating from Lebanon, granting amnesty to illegals, etc.....
I think they are. Grandpa Dave's line about Donner Party Republicans was right on. George WIll is a virulent example. There hasn't been a GOP President yet that was "pure" enough for Saint George of The Right Wing Grail; not Reagan, not Bush I and certainly not W.
I haven't read the article yet...but I can guess from the title where it is going...
Now, I am going to read it...LOL
Snore.
Your hatred of President Bush is so blatant.
Do you guys get paid by George $oreA$$ to bash Bush by the word or the reply?
Reagan didn't have a GOP Congress (The Senate for 2 years IIRC), Illegals were only 2 million and not a nationwide problem, and had no conservative news outlets at all.
President reagan was the best in my life time. I always supported him.
Iran Contra hearings Ollie North fought back every day! President Reagan stood fast.
President Bush has not fought back once in the last 16 months. I swear Bush is the Dems and Mexico's pinata
I'm part of the 35% who support Bush. Albeit, for his foreign policy, not his domestic policy. I don't hate Bush. He's just not a conservative.
Now go back to sleep, Rip Van Stupid.
The "he/she is better than the alternative" argument has really been leaving a bad taste in "my" mouth for quite some time now.
The GOP was much more effective back in the 40 years of darkness as the "loyal opposition" other than the short bright spot when Newt led the charge. Of course he, being less than perfect for the social crowd, was dumped.
