[Let me]propose a devastatingly simple solution to end illegal immigration. Instead of deporting the roughly 11 million illegal aliens in the U.S., put a bounty on the heads of employers to turn illegals into snitches. ... Apologists for illegals use the "false choice" argument suggesting there only are two solutions to deal with illegals -- deportation or citizenship.
Or "whistle-blowing" for those who think outside the box. Almost overnight, the feds could have 11 million potential confidential informants as 11 million pairs of eyeballs would look to cash in by turning in their unscrupulous employers.
Offer an enticing reward -- maybe $50,000 and American citizenship for the snitch and his immediate family -- for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the employer. How many bosses would risk paranoia and prison by not firing their illegal hires?
... The Bush administration probably would not consider this nearly foolproof plan because it just might work. However, there would be nothing to stop a state from implementing it. Even though citizenship could not be part of the package, the snitches could be assured of anonymity so they could remain in America.
The program would not be costly because it would not take many high-profile convictions to convince employers to purge illegals from the payroll.
Since the government won't do the work to enforce immigration law, a bounty will encourage illegals to do that job, too.

A better one is to tax all non-citizens without a visa at 55% federal rate! Penalize all employers with a 70% tax penalty to enforce it! Kill the incentive to even come here!
BTTT Mrs. Don!!
The object is for the illegals to go back to mexico. I suggest that the U.S. government adapt the same system that mexico has. The mexican government agency (forgot its name) periodically audits every employer to make sure that all their employees have proper documentation. If they are caught with foreign employees without proper documentation then they're in a heap of trouble and they will be fined huge fines.
Or dis-allow the expensing of personnel costs for all employees that cannot be verified as either bona-fide US citizens or Green Card holders. . . .
My proposal is a citizen exchange. We take the Mexicans who desperately want to be here in exchange for the Communist loving Leftists who don't.

"Agree; Businesses are the drug pushers. "
So are schools, hospitals, and sanctuary cities.
Yes I think employers need to be held responsible. Give them the tools to do it.
Just Pittsburgh Tribune, no Herald in the name, btw.
"My proposal is a citizen exchange. We take the Mexicans who desperately want to be here in exchange for the Communist loving Leftists who don't."
I say we give one person on welfare who refuses to work for every Mexican dying to work.
Interesting.
I guess the newspaper employee has never heard of the SSA's Earnings Suspense File and the annual mailing of tens of thousands of employer "no match" letters. (There are also employee "no match" letters mailed annually -- about nine million of them.)
The SSA knows who the employers are. They have bogus, stolen SSNs tied to employee and employer via W-2 earnings data that do not match SSA's master files.
The SSA has several ways employers can use to easily verify SSN's. The will is not there.
When it comes to breaking laws to get "cheap labor" the culture of enforcement does not exist in Washington and sure as hell is absent from the business community.
That is an EXCELLENT idea!
If your giving me 50,000 I'll go out and find them myself.
Things aren't as easy as they seem. Even when an employer tries to do the right thing he's the one the State finds at fault.

21 who skipped work for boycott fired
Erik Loyd | Friday, May 5 2006 10:25 PM
Americas immigration debate has hit home for a Bakersfield business owner.
Burns Drywall and Plastering owner Jeff Burns fired several employees who stayed home from work last Monday to observe the immigration boycott.
Jeff Burns, owner of Burns Drywall & Plastering Inc., fired at least 21 Latino employees who he said didnt show up for work on Monday because of the day without immigrants boycott in Bakersfield.
Although Burns decision to terminate the workers has won praise from supporters, it has also hurt him financially and placed him on uncertain legal ground.
Burns knew that the men were discussing the planned protest of legislation that would attempt to seal off the U.S.-Mexico border and make criminals of illegal immigrants and those who assist them.
I got together with everyone who works for me, Burns said. I had bilingual people there. I told them, Were here to work. We dont play politics. Do that on your own time.
To make his policy unmistakably clear, Burns drew up a memo warning the workers that they would be fired for participating in the boycott. Workers were instructed to sign an attached sheet to acknowledge the warning.
By not showing up for work, you do harm to Burns Drywall & Plastering, Inc. and our customers, the memo reads. We lose jobs, good customer relationships, it harms our name and reputation and we lose money.
By about 7 a.m. on Monday, Burns knew where he stood. Several men were missing.
It was pretty lonely here, Burns said. I knew they werent coming. I went on with the skeleton crew I had.
But the absentees showed up the next day. Burns said he called a meeting and asked their whereabouts the day before. We had to march, was the reply, Burns said.
So I said, You can march on out that gate you cant work here anymore. I told you what would happen, Burns said. There was no trouble as the workers left.
Burns actions raise questions with cloudy answers. While he is certain that most, if not all, of his crew are illegal immigrants, he is uncertain if he is obligated to verify the authenticity of the documentation they present when applying for a job.
Burns said he doesnt have the means to perform such checks, and he needs the manpower. Whats more, he doesnt know if there are legal ramifications to terminating the workers over a dispute thats as much political as it is about the bottom line.
Dean Fryer, spokesman for California Department of Industrial Relations, said an employer could be found to have discriminated against employees if they are fired for taking part in a political event. On the other hand, If they didnt show up as scheduled, the employer has every right to take discipinlnary action against employees, Fryer said. Theres a fine line here.
"AND WHETHER THE WORKERS ARE ILLEGAL IS IRRELEVANT TO THE STATE", Fryer said.
"DOCUMENTATION IS NOT AN ISSUE," he said. "THAT'S A FEDERAL ISSUE".
Burns said he fired some of his most skilled employees, which is costing the business $2,000 to $3,000 per day in lost production, but he has made a few new hires. While Burns was talking to The Californian by phone at midday Friday, two more Spanish-speaking job seekers were heard in the background.
Burns and his wife, Debbie, said theyre receiving a wave of calls from supporters across the state, reinforcing their conviction that their action was correct even if it hurts personally and financially.
My decision was based on the fact that Im an American, he said. Im not worried about my dollar today Im worried about my country tomorrow.
*chuckle* As a supporter of the second amendment, I'm with ya. If an actual bounty were given for the arrest of these business owners(which won't happen because they have congress in a strangle hold) I'll bet we wouldn't be the only ones taking a weekend off for a "road trip"
I live in Illinois and I could make enough money to never have to work again in, in about one week by just going to the wal mart, then to a construction site.
