Schwarzenegger takes Congress and White House to task for failing to enact immigration strategy and says they are to blame for protests.
ROSEVILLE, Calif. In some of the harshest terms he has used to date, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday said the federal government has left the nation's borders dangerously vulnerable while failing to come up with a sensible approach to immigration.
Schwarzenegger, taking questions at a news conference on a multibillion-dollar public works package passed by the Legislature early Friday, blamed the Bush administration and Congress for the massive street protests and widespread public unhappiness over federal immigration policy.
Marches in Los Angeles, Chicago and other cities, he said, "are an expression of frustration. People want to send a message to Washington that they're not happy with certain bills .
"I think that all of this comes down to one thing: The federal government has failed the people of America in a terrible way, in a disastrous way, when it comes to this immigration situation."

This also just in... Bears $%!& in the woods! News at 11.
Another code for amnesty.
Dana, how many of the authorized 2000 per year per five years, new immigration agents did Bush hire? Sorry babe, but you folks are as clueless as a Klansman at an NAACP meeting.
A "DUH" alert!
Of course OUR borders are VULNERABLE!
Just look at how many ILLEGALS are here~
Just look at the UNABASHED ARROGANCE in demanding LEGAL rights when they are ILLEGAL.
Imagine what a more sophisticated terrorist group can do with our UNSECURE borders if ILLEGALS are crawling out of the woodwork DEMANDING stuff. I don't believe these ILLEGAL ALIENS are as sophisticated as terrorists in sneaking in here.
That's my take as well. At least he broached the subject. It's a problem that is affecting most states in the nation, and yet you hear very little out of the states' elected officials. I'm almost certain I disagree stridently with Schwarzenegger on this issue, but at least he has the balls to say something about it.
Granting legal status to 22.5 million illegal aliens will translate into allowing 50-75 million MORE immigrants to enter this nation over the next decade. That's 75 to 100 million new citizens folks.
Most of them will be voting against your values, or your own party will have to push the nuclear pander button to prevent it. Either way, conservatism will be destroyed.
And it is absolutely unbelievable that the White House is tooting their horn about their pathetic efforts at the border. The little (with emphasis on little) they have done was shoved down their unwilling throats by Congress.
What has Arnold done to Security His Borders & enforce illegal alien Laws?
Arnold is talking out of Both Sides of His mouth!
He only broached the subject because he was in Roseville, which is largely a conservative city in a very conservative county (Placer). He's gonna need those R votes!
Can you say pandering......to both sides of the issue.
"The governor voiced incredulity over what he described as porous borders that leave the U.S. exposed to terrorists.
That's exactly correct to allow 20 million people to break into the U.S. and steal is unbelievable, steal jobs, steal welfare benefits, steal medicaid.
Open borders encourage the terroists to break in unafraid with a nuclear bomb. If the mexicans can get away with it with NO repurcussions does anyone believe this doesnt send a dangerous message to the world of terroists?
What's criminal is that the border is still wide open and the illegal aliens are still running free. It should NOT be a misdemeaner regardless of what the pro illegals whine.
We managed to not say what he thought should be done. Girlie man.
SCHWARZENEGGER: Well, I think that it would be ludicrous to limit yourself to just building a wall. I mean, we're going back to the Stone Ages here. I mean, we are landing man on the moon, and we are in outer space and we are doing all of those great things. I think there is other technology that we can secure the borders. If I say now, yes, let's build a wall, but what prevents you from building a tunnel. How many tunnels have been built in these last 10 years? I mean we've detected tunnels left and right that people just drive trucks through. And there are air conditioned systems in these tunnels and water flow and food supply and everything. I think that it is crazy to think a wall alone will do it.
STEPHANOPOULOS: You've also talked about compassion for immigrants. And President Bush, Senator McCain, Senator Kennedy all look at that principle and say we need a path to earned citizenship. If you're here illegally, that you but pay back taxes, pay a fine, wait in line, work hard, you should be able to become a citizen. Do you agree with that?
SCHWARZENEGGER: I agree that there should be a way to earn your citizenship, especially people that have been here for a long time, people that have contributed to our economy, that have contributed to our society, they have done community work, they been great citizens. I think we should give them a chance for redemption and for, you know, earning their way in by paying, doing more community work and all of those things and passing a test, a language test, a citizenship test, and all of those things. Yes. We should. Because the other thing that people talk about which is let's send them all back. I mean think about that. How do you do that logistically? How does that work? To send 12 million people back. It would cost $500 Billion dollars. Who's gonna pay for that? I mean it's ludicrous to think this way.
STEPHANOPOULOS: As you know, the critics of earned citizenship call it amnesty. Just in March you wrote in the LA Times "granting citizenship to people that are here illegally is not just amnesty, it's anarchy." So you have changed your view?
SCHWARZENEGGER: No. Not at all. I don't believe in amnesty at all. I think that amnesty doesn't work. I think that's why I said one has to be able to earn their citizenship. There's a difference between just, you know, saying from now on, you know, 12 million can stay here and we will give you citizenship. That's amnesty.

"Dana Perino, a spokeswoman for the White House, said Friday that the Bush administration "has gone to great lengths to improve border security, both in terms of financial resources and technology."
Perino is a bare-faced liar!
This administration is beginning to lie like the Clinton one!
Schwarzenegger has become a devoted convert to the Ted Kennedy approach to illegal immigration.
And that approach is:
"The border is out of control. That proves that we have an urgent need to pass a blanket amnesty for illegal aliens."
Don't you love it when Bush says it is extremely important that we control our border.
It's like he's saying: Gee those people in the federal government ought to control our borders.
Someone needs to inform Bush that he is President.
