White House Dismisses Reports on Goss

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House on Saturday denied that President Bush had lost confidence in just-resigned CIA Director Porter Goss, saying there was a "collective agreement" the agency needed a new leader now.

Bush planned to act quickly, perhaps as early as Monday, to nominate Goss' successor. The leading candidate was Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden, the top deputy to National Intelligence Director John Negroponte, a senior administration official said.

Goss played an important role in the fight against terrorism and "helped transform the agency to meet the challenging times we're living in," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters Saturday as Bush flew to Oklahoma State University for a commencement address.

From deep in the article;

***************************************

CIA officials dismissed suggestions that Goss' resignation was tied to controversy surrounding the CIA's executive director, Kyle "Dusty" Foggo. The FBI is investigating whether Foggo's longtime friend, defense contractor Brent Wilkes, provided prostitutes, limousines and hotel suites to a California congressman who pleaded guilty to taking bribes from Wilkes and others in exchange for government contracts.

CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said Goss' resignation also was not related to the recent firing of a CIA officer that Goss said had unauthorized contacts with the press; the firing that found support within the agency and the White House.

The commentators don't really have anything to work with this week. The market went sky high. People are spending money. The unemployment rate is down....(except for illegals).

So it's all about energy. We should have drilled in Alaska years ago. The alternatives will come. Of course, it's not like windmills or solar energy is something knew...It's just "how are the energy companies going to retain the same monopoly as they hold?".

Is that right? If yes, would he have better chance than Harris to unseat Nelson?

At this point its just one of a dozen rumors floating around. But if he did run, I think he would have a much better shot than Harris does currently.

what do you think they'd say? If they said it was, it would be akin to a confession.

So this new rumor is that Goss resigned because some underling was pals with some contractor who bribed Cunnimgham? I don't really see why Goss would be in trouble for that. All he'd have to do is fire this Foggo.

What we don't know is whether Goss was fired because he wasn't thorough enough at rooting out the clintonoids, whether he was fired because he was too thorough at rooting out the clintonoids, or whether he asked to leave because he was ready to move on.

My first reaction to this announcement was very negative. But maybe his successor will continue to root out the corrupt leftist traitors in the CIA. I sure hope so.

Probably a better reason is that his boss wasn't comfortable with him in that position and thought he had a better candidate for the job.

Yes, most of us thought that Goss was doing a good job cleaning out the rogues, although I did notice we hadn't heard much from him recently. Evidently it wasn't as good a job as we hoped. So, good news after all.

I sure wish I knew what was said on that website, every time I clicked on to it, it knocked me off. I mean it knocked me off phone line and all, I had to sign on again. I only got a chance to read a tiny bit and I even tried to save it and before I was able, boom it knocked me off. What in the heck did it say? I even tried not just clicking on,but typing out their website address and it still booted me. I am not having any other problems.

It said that Goss went to the CIA to find and fire the leaker and do whatever else that drastically needed doing, and that he has accomplished his mission, so he left. That this was the plan all along. Also, his reported replacement, Mike Hayden, is Negroponte's right-hand man right now, so that when he replaces Goss the retaking of the CIA from the rogue leakers will be complete. Oh and that Mary McCarthy wasn't just a leaker, she was the queen bee of leakers.
