I think it's survivors guilt. Massachusetts has never gotten over the assassination of JFK. They still cling to "Camelot". All of New England has changed greatly since I grew up there. It was basically conservative, at least that's how I perceived it. Now it's leftwing kook central.

New England has lost its moral compass...up here in Vermont, where over 40% of the state is Christian, we have abortion on demand at any time...we have civil unions where the parts don't fit, and we have a socialist rep....we can't put up wind-mills, it may affect the bird migrations...and the beat goes on, and it's getting worse.

It is patronage machine politics. Joe Kennedy was the boss dispensing the favors. The big dig was the most recent example. It is a form of corruption that we need to excise in Boston and Chicago.
