To all

What ever happened to plans to make the Stephen Pressfield, 'Gates of Fire'? (Novel on the Battle of Thermopalye..THIS IS NOT A REMAKE OF 300 SPARTANS !) Also there are a lot of historical novels out there would make great action movies.
Also there has on again & off again plans to do Ayn Rand's , 'Atlas Shrugged' movie. (Yes I realize its message is antithetical to everything Hollywood believes ! ...ans maybe thats the reason !)

In the media, all one hears about is jenn and brad and money, etc.

At 9 or 10 billion, hollywood is a pretty small industry.

We spend about 500 billion on crude oil for comparison.

I mean, if they wanted to take fundamental liberties with core characters, how about a gay Superman? That's the ticket -- and then throw in a long, complicated-but-touching relationship with Batman and sit back for the Oscars to roll in ....

Well, the director's gay anyway.

Decent scripts, decent direction, and decent acting. Good luck finding any of that in Mission Impossible:3 and the other explosion laden dreck out there.

I would be willing to settle for actors and actresses that don t hate the USA and actively work for her enemies.

But I still watch everything at home. The rudeness in theaters has driven me out permanently.

I'll probably skip this one. A gay Superman is too much for me.

Singer has said on several occasions that Spacey will NOT play Luthor as a campy role, the way hackman did. He said that was tired 70's stuff, and it just wouldn't play well now. And they're not RE-making the orgin story, just alluding to it. Though they say this isn't a sequel, it really is....it just picks up after the second film, and pretends that 3 and 4 never happened. For that alone, we all need to thank Singer.

Weber's is unfortunately a militaristic Neanderthal in the worldview of the hollywierd libs, so the sweeping epic story of Commodore Harrington is unlikely to get picked up. As to Turtledove's alternate history...I can hear the shrieks of the libs now at the very idea that anyone could possibly contemplate for half a nanosecond the inkling of the idea that the Confederacy could have won the Civil War.
Nope, you're more likely to see a movie made out of Mein Kampf than those two.
Clancy is always a possibility, but they'll trash the story to make it politically correct.
Flint's series now...I received the second one in the series as a gift and refuse to read it until I can find the first one.
I'm not familiar with Ringo's stuff, but will seek it out on your recommendation.

Luthor sure looks campy in the new trailer. Could be misdirection, but why intentionally leave that impression? I've seen production shots of him walking through the surf on the beach wearing an expensive suit, which sure lends itself to the camp aspect--especially when his girlfriend is also walking through the surf in a fancy dress with a big hat, carrying a lapdog. The thong lines on the Superman suit are another thing not to thank Singer for. They are so prominent, they are even captured on the action figure and on the painting a little ways up on this thread.

The only one worth a damn was the second one, which Zod's character saved, because it was played straight.

...and that one lost me when it showed Zod and his cohorts standing on the airless surface of the Moon, having a chat with each other... Um, script-writer guys? No air = no sound.

IIRC, that was also the one that inexplicably gave Superman Jedi mind-control abilities (when he waved his hand over Lois Lain's head and said "forget...") Why? Because they were too lazy to resolve the plot any other way...

Unfortunately it's very difficult to find some of these books in liberal bookstores (B&N) but Waldenbooks still carry them. Amazon has all of them so you can find them there.

Also Baen.com has a webpage where you can read 1632 for free.

Free Baen library books

1632 and 1633 are in that list. Actually I just checked and you can download the books there yourself.
Gust Front : first of the Posleen war books is listed there too. Another one you can find that you might like it by Michael Z Williamson called Freehold : Excellent reading.

David Weber's Apocalypse Troll might be another good one that could be adapted to a movie.

***Wasn't that a feature edited down from the adventure serials?***

The first one was but the second was a theater feature. It was on TV several years ago but I had to go to work and missed all but the first 15 minutes where the inner earth men come out of an oil well.

Those are great! Reminds me of the one episode of Lois and Clark I saw, where Terry Kiser repeatedly puts on and takes off a pair of glasses while saying, "Clark Kent? Superman! Clark Kent? Superman!" When Lois registers her surprise, he says something about her being "galactically stupid." :)
