DANVERS, Mass. -- A Lawrence man was charged with murder Friday after he allegedly tried to steal a car and the owner was dragged and killed while trying to stop him, police said.
NewsCenter 5's Jorge Quiroga reported that the incident happened on Route 114 in Danvers Thursday night.
Roy Dowds Jr., 31, pleaded not guilty in Salem District Court to charges of murder, larceny of a motor vehicle, subsequent offense, leaving the scene of an accident after causing personal injury and death, operating under the influence of liquor and operating with a suspended license.
"(Dowds) conceded that if it was required, he would run into anything and around anything to get this victim off of the car," said prosecutor Elizabeth Satelmayer.

I read the whole story. Can he just be shot and get it over with?
Works for me. I just hope he doesn't get the equal of a certain Vermont judge or a certain Virginia jury.
Here's a clue, Jeff: "gentleman" is not a synonym for "man."
Let's not forget this is Massachusetts. He'll get a pass because he's underprivileged and from Lawrence. I go past that area whenever I'm on I-95 going home to NH and I'd have never thought it to be that bad. My thoughts go out to the family of the deceased young man.
Sorry, but I'm going to have to nominate this fellow for a Darwin award.
The car thief/murderer did not do this in a vacuum.
Shooting him will only take out the visible symptom. He has a people around him, maybe gang members, fences, suppliers of his drugs, etc. It will take more than just shooting him. I am, of course, not advocating anything illegal, just pointing out that shooting him alone is a partway measure.
I meant that I want the legal system to take care of this right away, not years from now.
I know your posts are always good. My sense of humor is dry and I am an inveterate nit picker and make sensationalist comments. Sorry, our legal system, as imperfect as it is, is the best one around. We just have to put some common sense into it, and get rid of the ACLU influence.
I understand. Sometimes I have to make sure people know when I am kidding and when I am being serious.
